The 1969 Queen of Courts ceremony, held Friday, February 21, was an ex- citing night for three lovely candidates from the senior class: Miss Tamara Case, Miss Roxanne Hague, and Miss Mary Beth Kjellin. As the ceremony began, the Pep Club members formed a candlelit pathway to the throne. In the final exciting moments, Mary Beth Kjellin was crowned 1969 Queen of Courts by Kaye Applegate, 1968 Queen of Courts. Mary Beth and her attendants reigned over the last half of an exciting game between the Victorious Warriors and the Centre Cougars. This year's theme-- Love Is Blue --was carried out at the dance which followed with beautiful decorations and music by the Basically Sound. Roxie Hague Tammy Case

The first signs of a new school year can be heard about two weeks before any other school activity, as the Marion High School Band begins its rehearsals in pre- paration for their many marching oppor- tunities in parades, as well as during the halftime of many football games. Throughout the rest of the school year, the band, under the direction of Mr. Conrad Steinel, seems to always be pre- paring for some performance, whether it be music contest, the league music festival conceit, KU Band Day, or one of the band's own concerts and for some reason usually seems to come out on the top. Senior trombone player, Doug Westerhaus is shown re- hearsing during a daily rehearsal. Band members were seen many times during the fall practicing for an upcoming parade or game.
