Bowers (Managers). Basketball Spirit was the only word that could describe the mighty Marion Warriors and fans during their victories in the District tournament held at Peabody. The team came right through all the way to the top, amid the screams and chants of the faithful M. M.C. S. and Pep Club, to take the first place trophy. Even though the Marion Warriors had a slow start with a record of 5-9, they came back full force for a dramatic climax to an exciting season. Because of the vigor ous training and the a 11-out-effort of the boys; the Warriors, out of ten meets, brought home two first-place trophies and four second-place trophies. Since the Warriors did so well in the Regional meet at Manhattan by taking second place, five boys were able to go on to the State meet at Salina and bring home a third place trophy. Besides the honor of so many placings in the various meets, Marion is equally proud of Warrior Gary Melcher, who now holds the state record in the discus of 161' 6 .
