Initiating his career as a music instructor he stepped onto the podium not only to develop an outstand- ing band but to introduce a. philosophy of music instruc- tion uniquely his own based on an infectious humor. To Kenneth Swanson of the United States Marine Corps we dedicate this, our 1951 Warrior. 2 ADMINISTRATION Erle W. Volkzland l Principal of the Marion High School Biological Science Teacher A. J. Some of the accomplishments of the group have been as follows: continuation of the activities with the platform established under the new constitution, affiliation with the National Association of Student Councils, a full year schedule of assembly programs, many all school parties and dances, the chartering of the Latin and Dramatics Club and the sponsoring of the yearbook. These made our Marion High School Student Governing Body under the able spon- sorship of Mrs. Price and Mr. Yaussi one of which our school can be justly proud. 23 LATIN CLUB Front Row: Miss Stewart, spon., Marlys Rupp, Carol Ginavan, Ginger Price, Clarice Collett, Phyllis Blankley, Jessie Jewett, Pauline Minear. Because of the cold the camera didn't work properly and we didn't get any pictures of the game or the coronation ceremony. The coronation itself went on in spite of the bitter cold after which the queen and her attendants held dominion until driven from their throne by the icy blasts. Although the under-dogs of the game. the Peabody team scored twice and threatened at other times, but the Warriors overcame these threats by scoring twenty five to twelve against Peabody, making sixteen straight wins and concluding one of the most brilliant seasons in our school's history. The team then began to show definite improvement. So much so that it was said to be the most improved team in the league. We ended up the season in the old gm with eight victories and 10 losses. Marion von over Hillsboro for the first time on their court since 1914-1. Marion defeated Hillsboro twice in the same season for the first time since 1928.
