BL UE ,J w Domestic Science A generation or two ago people demanded that education be strictly cultural In recent years thev have come to look upon education as a thing which will help them to better living by making labor more ef- ficient. This has resulted in a broadening of the standard for the edu- cation of women. Woman is not satisfied with a training which de- velops only the intellect. In addition to this the new education gives attention to the physical, esthetic, social, domestic, economic and spirit- ual development. The result has been an organization of Home Eco- nomics Department in many schools and colleges. In the Marion High School this work is divided into two divisions. The Domestic Science Course includes a study of the laws of health and sanitationg the wise expenditure of money and timeg and the scientific principles underlying the selection and preparation of food. The Do- mestic Art Course gives instruction in plain sewing. The work in mending and caring for old garments and the cutting, fitting and mak- ing of new garments is accompanied by a course in textiles which em- phasizes the properties of various fibers in relation to care, cleaning and laundering. 4 i 1 -2 5 f..,- Il i in U ',iv - if Q ii Lili fr
