This year is the first year that Marion has had a Bw Team in football. This accounts for the fact that they were up against such odds and tough competition, None of the seventeen boys who Went out had ever played any organized football before but under the excellent leadership of Coach Mabry they have come a long Way toward mastering this art. The light hut fast Nlarion Fox Varsity Team had its toughest games at the top of the sehednle as they took a slight sethack from Dillon on the first game of the season. They came right hack, though. in their next game to meet the powerful Darlington squad who won only a hair-raising one-point margin. The out-weighed Foxes made a very good showing in their next game against the tough odds of Conway's Class AA team. On their first home game of the season they rallied to hreak into the win column hy defeating The Myrtle lieach Seahawks hy a score of 19-7. The l'oxes made the hest showing in many years against their traditional rival-Mullins. Niul- lins eased forward in the first half with a two-touchdown lead hut in the next half they were decidedly outplayed hy the Marion team. Despite this excellent second-half play- ing the Foxes never overcame the lead piled up hy Nlullins during the first half, leaving the score at 26-13. The Foxes really moved forward into the win column as they took the next four games straight. They took two of these games leaving their opponents ahso- lutely scoreless. The Foxes proved their worth when they took on The Aynor Blue Devils despite the fact that they at that time held the Lower State Class A Championship. They held this Championship team to a one-t0uCh- down lead with a score of 19-12. The Foxes thus ended their first season under the excel- lent coaching of Lyon and Evans with an accreditahle 50-50 record of wins and losses.
