The staff has made an attempt to carry this theme throughout the entire yearbook. This has been done by scattering baby pictures within the class sections to represent earlier school days and by the printing of pictures which reproduce the many excit- ing activities which have occurred this past year. Such memories fill us with enthusiasm. We see this enthusiasm of school life reflected in the faces around us, both in places near and in places far. And even though the faces of Marion Senior High School are many and varied, they reflect you, the student body. REFLECTIONS” The sea runs without end, sometimes slowly, sometimes swiftly, eternally creating formations and images in the sand. It is the same with life. We live, some of us quickly, others with caution, taking time. And the experiences create lines and impressions and our faces, like the sand, show what happens in our souls. by - Janice Blue Seventeen magazine MARY BETH ROSKA Advertising Editor CHRIS CASEY Junior Class Editor BILL LUEKER Assistant Editor MRS. The Board is responsible for our school improvements. Because of the rapid rate of educational advancements which occur in our times, the Board meets new challenges every day. Buses travel ap- proximately 197,000 miles in a year. Each day students are transported to and from school. In addition to carrying students to and from school, our transportation system provides a means for trips to all athletic events and other extracurricu- lar school activities. Transportation MR. JACK EVANS Transportation Foreman Area Vocational Center MR. ALLEN McCABE Director of Vocational Education 22 Mrs. Ellen Snyder leads her students along the path of interior decoration. Mrs. Catherine Neuman directs some students in the bedside technique practiced in hospitals. The Area Vocational Center located at Marion Sen- ior High School was established in 1967 to help meet the needs of students in the area who are interested in specialized training in agriculture, agriculture mechan- ics, auto mechanics, building trades, drafting, electric- ity and electronics, forestry and conservation, food ser- vices, and office machines and office occupations. Ad- ditional courses concerning child care, distributive and marketing education, and nursing services have been added since. Pupils are transported to the Center by the home school on a half day basis. Students receive special- ized vocational training while enrolled in all other course work and extra-curricular activities at their home high school. Two units of credit are given for each year’s work. The participating school districts are Johnston City, Marion, Crab Orchard, Herrin, Carterville, and Gore- ville. Students develop welding experiences under the watchful eyes of Mr. John Grant and Allen McCabe. 23 Students enrolled in vocational bookkeeping are under the direction of Mrs. Patricia Barker. Members of Mr. Wesley Deaton's electronics class attempt to assemble various electrical instruments. 24 Mrs. Sandra Barra's marketing class takes time out for the photographer.
