The Butlers have a problem. This problem is all because Ann Butler is a doctor, and in the meantime Tom is a ve ry unsuccessful song- writer, but a very successful housewife. D o u g is ashamed of his father, and Julie complains that her mother isn't .home enough to coach her on the fundamentals of catching a boy, namely Warren, Doug's friend. Ann tries to remedy the situation by moving her office to the house. This causes numerous hilarious situations. Hank Steincke, a vacuum ,cleaner salesman, turns song-plugger and Tom's song An Apple a Day turns into a hit. The play ends with a firm conclusion that it takes more than a house to make a home and lfrom Father's point of view, at leastl more than an apron to make a housewife!
