Sue Cooksey reigned over the entire festival as the 1953-54 Homecoming Queen. The Annual editor was Paula Parks. The Senior staff members were: Mary Ann King Marilee Booth Marilyn Talley Sue Cooksey Del Wachtel Larry Odum Larry Collins and Paula Parks. The Senior members of the school newspaper The Student were Sue Reid Kenneth Cannon Jaquetta Knight Kenneth Davis Jane Weber Ellen Crites Ida Crain Marilyn Soldner and Mary Ann King. Mary Ann was editor. Those on this years football team were Del Wachtel Billy Deaton Glen Smith Larry Collins Doyle McAllister Larry Moore Larry Odum Kenneth Cannon Ronald Bernhard Donnie Merideth and Captain Jim King. During basketball season we saw Donnie Groves Larry Collins Jack Dwyer and Larry Odum. Last year our track team consisted of Larry Collins Larry Odum Doyle McAllister Bill Deaton and Jim King. BASEBALL SUMMARY The Wildcats from the baseball diamond ended the T953 season with the most outstanding record Ll5 wins 1 2 defeatsi ever attained by a Marion baseball team. After losing the season's opener to Benton, the Cats played excellent ball to win the remainder of the regular seasons games. Entering the Subedistrict Tournament with on llfl record, the proteges of Coach Cliff Storme continued to play out- standing ball by capturing both the sub-district and district titles. The Cats then came home to the Marion diamond to defeat DuQuoin in the first game of the Sectional Tourney. Then, in the Sectional Finals, the Wildcats fell victim to a fine Murphysboro team thus losing the chance to advance to the state finals at Peoria.
