STANDING: left to right—Herbert Schafale, Ursula Fish, Roberta Grimes, Danny Cox, Carolyn Joyner, Dale Pate, Bob Chamness, Wilma Jean Holmes, Bill Burger, and Caryl Adams. Spring Fever, this year's Senior play, was presented February 6, 7, and 8 at the Marion Jr. High School. It was a very amusing play of 3 acts. The story was about college life, and concerned main- ly, with the possible chance of one fellow not receiving his sheepskin. All's well finally after much hilarious confusion. Despite this poor per- centage record, the cats played some very good football. Their best game of the year being against Centralia, Home- coming. The cats held the strong Or- phans scoreless the first half and then lost by a disappointing 13-0. With four first stringers back next year plus several out- standing Frosh-Soph players, we may look forward to a promising season. BASKETBALL SUMMARY The Marion Wildcats display- ed some excellent basketball as they climaxed the season with a 19-10 record. After a slow start, the Cats defeated two power- ful teams, Pinckneyville and Champaign, to take third place in the Centralia Holiday Tourna- ment. The Wilsonmen won their last seven games before they were upset by a tricky Carbon- dale Attucks' team in the finals of the Regional Tourney by one basket. The Wildcats will lose four valuable men next year but have some excellent prospects and should have an outstanding team in 1952-1953. Kent was not present at this final game as he went to Champaign to compete in the State Track Meet. Gene Baggett was the outstanding swatter as he compiled a very outstanding .440 batting average. Kent's pitching was outstanding and acclaimed throughout the state. He hurled one no-hit (against Carbondale) and three one-hit games. He pitched 53 2 3 innings during which he fanned 95 and allowed only six earned runs.
