The highlight ofthe evening was the crowning ofthe queen and king who were Delore Gunn and Robert Montgomery. King, queen and attendants were selected by votes from the F. F. A. and F, H. A. After romp- ing over Carterville in the season opener, 25-13, the cats were unable to find the win column for seven games.Then in the final game of the year they came back to defeat Herrin 27-l2. Marions full- back, Bob Groves, received honorable mention on the all state team .This year's team showed the local fans some real football and they are looking forward to the coming season. Under the very capable coaching of Virgil Cuss Wilson, the Cats won 25 and lost 8. After a slowstart the Wildcats came to life and captured fourth place in the Centralia Tournament for the second consecutive year. Following this the Marion quintet won the next four games before losing one. After this lone defeat the Wildcats began a I4 game winning stread. They won the Pyr- amid tourney by defeating Frankfort 72-40. In the Regional Tournament the Cats won over Murphys- boro, Gorham, and Herrin to advance to the Sec- tional Tourney. The Cats, after splitting the first two games, went on to take seven wins in a row. They then dropped one to Royalton and won from Ben- ton, which gave them a 9-2 record going into the District Tour- ney. After winning from Christopher in the first game, they then lost to Royalton to end the season with a IO-3 record. John Kent pitched a no-hit no-run game against the Benton Rangers for a season highlight .
