Semor Htstory Do we remember our first day m High School? We surely do We were up and ready for school by about sw 0 clock and just as soon as our fond parents permitted we started out West Street When we were almost tlred out the H S bulldmg came into yiew and wlth renewed strength we hur rxed on Inside the bulldlng we received the first shock of our High School hfe No committee of upper classmen was on hand to welcome us and a few Sophs giggled and called us green and fresh The teachers Instead of expelling the mpudent Sophs merely wlnked at each other and laughed heartlessly Alas' Greatness is always slowly recognized After regnstratlon we explored the building and ln the coulse of our rambles we visited the gym and whlle here we were sei ed by a band of Sophs and firmly and forcibly intro duced to the iron posts in the gym During our first week we were lined up ln our classes learned Loves Old Sweet Song and were ready for buslness Our first year was short and sweet We broke all precedents by glXlflg, a Freshman tymquet which made us slck with good eats and the Sophs sick with envy Several Freshmen also took an active part ln athletics Our second year ln H S was uneyentful as we were yery buslly engaged ln wrestling wlth Geometry and Caesar We found time however to keep the Freshles in the straight and narrow way and distinguished ourselyes intellectually since a Sophomore was chosen to represent Marlon at Car bondale with an oratlon while another Soph was selected to glye a reading at the same mtellectual meet We organrfed early ln the next year wlth the tollowms oftlcers to carry on the immense volume of business Pres Vlrgll Felts Vice Pres Lawrence Goley Sec Treas Verme Garrison In our junior year we distinguished ourselves in all school actlvltles We placed two men on the first basketball team and one member in the quartette Our junior play broke all attendance records and was a dramatic success gaccordlng to the members of the castj Our banquet glyen to the Faculty and Seniors was described by such Hatterlng adye tlycs as great sumptuous nov sp endld unlque etc lt was some big eed Thls yeal we are Seniors We have passed most ot the obstacl s and are now on the home stretch with a diploma dangling before our eyes Many new things haye been put through successfully this year and the Senior class has stood squarely behlnd everything worth while Our star basket ball players from the junior year left us so we have had to make our mark this year in intellectual aCllVlIlCS Our Senior year has been successful and we have no re grets coming Altho we shall be glad to wear our caps and gowns we shall still envy the lgnorant Frcshle with four long years of High School before him We have done our best to make the old M T H S bigger and better Nlay suc ceedlng classes keep thls same ideal ln mind as they cllmb onward and upward O I . . 1, Y . , . . - A Y V .
