This year the Mariton Staff has strived to make our annual different: we have divided the book into three sec- tions-FALL - WINTER - SPRING. We have placed the classes and organizations intoithe seasons ot their most outstanding activities. The Class History ot the Seniors will be told very briefly accompanying the write-up ot the present class. Thus as our high school days draw to a close, we are indeed happy in the thought that our MARITON will treasure our cherished memories of Marion, the school we love. Design A TRIBUTE TO THE FACULTY In spite of war conditions which have caused a shortage of - teachers these who have remained with us, although they are overburdened, have tried in every possible way to give us . normal school lives and to brighten our after-school hours by sponsoring numerous class and club activities, sports, plays and our MARITON. The freshmen class consisting of seventy-six have had their activities separately during the year, nine-one group under the sponsorship of Miss Schmidt and nine-two under Miss Slone. This class is looking forward to threc years of school activities. Since this is the first year that freshmen pictures have been added to the yearbook, it has been done with the hope that they may he made to feel that they are a vital part of high school life here at Marion. 20 FRESI-IMEN These are the students described as green who wander through the halls emitting those queer squenls and screams and never can decide to which study hall they belong. They enter into deep and weighty dis- cussions as to whether it will be best to take an academic or commercial course, what subjects will produce the greatest results with the least effort :ind whether they will be permitted more liberties when they become sophomores. Of our record we are justly proud, but the amount of space allotted will not permit us to emimerate our many noble achievements and brilliant victories. Permit us to say, however, that all we have ever accomplished, indeed, all we are and hope to be, has come about through courage, ability, good leadership and plenty of the right kind of class spirit. We shall try to tell you something of the dark and mysterious past of the class of 1945. Alter passing into the realm of high school on September second, nineteen hundred forty-one it took us quite a while to become adjusted and settled. By this time the year was over and we were able to call ourselves Sophomorcs. Now we might have some social affairs and cast our glances of scorn at those green Freshmen in the class beneath us, However, we were looked upon hy our predecessors as the giddy Sophomores. Finally the year ended and we emerged much the worse for the wear, but we still kept smiling through . Well, here we were .... Juniors and our mainneneentive was to hold dances, skating parties, and other activities so that we might finance a really Fine junior-Senior Banquet. At last that was realized and the evening of May third, nineteen hundred forty-four was spent at the Elk's Cluh in Charleroi. This one pleasure made up for all the tireso:ne days spent in study hall pouring over hooks under the eagle eyes of our faculty. Gee, those seats were hard! Wonder why the School Board doesn't provide cushions? Isn't that Senior Year ever going to come? Ar last! The YEAR of years! Hmmmm .,.. That's funny! It doesn't seem any different than the last three. But Iet's not quibble about trivial matters. We are now ultra-sophisticated Seniors. Crowds are gathering in the football stadium of Marion High School. Today the seats are rapidly Hlling with members of the class of 1945 who are holding a silver reunion. A fine class asserts a tall gray-haired gentleman. I was Principal when they graduated and we were proud of them. That's Eugene Boltze over there. He and Mrs. Boltze-the former Hilda Kidder came in their airplane from New York where he owns and operates a large painting and decorating establishment. Mrs. Boltze is discussing the good old days with her friends-the dignified Dr. Adeline Pierotti who now teaches Mathematics at Columbia University and Miss Pauline Condupa teacher of Chemistry here at Marion High School. On your left are the former Margaret Trenk and Doroth Ritarcik, inseparable as ever because they are planning a wedding of hflargarefs son to Dorothy's daughter. Am I seeing double or do I see four nurses from the old class? Yes, they are Corrine Finley, Ellen Yetsconish, Kathleen Daugherty and Agnes Hamilton who have all decided that a profession is preferable to married life. Approaching are none other than Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kroskie. Yes, she was Esther Jolley of the class of 1945. The lady with the broad smile who is passing us is our hurried and busy secretary-Sara Scullion, as youthful as ever. She has taught Physical Education for some years but is now Mrs. Samuel Wells. She rushes over to give some money to William Barnes-a well-to-do banker in Monessen who is still taking charge ofthe Hnances. With him is his private secretary, Miss Geneva Dupree. We overhear two fellows saying that the Misher twins are superin- tendents of large steel mills at Monessen and Allenport, but that the rush of business does not permit them to be present at the reunion. See, over there is the notorious cut-up of the class-Dave Mathewson, furtively wiping his eyes as he meets Kay McCrory and Dorothy Winn, who are both married. Can it be that he still carries a torch for some one?'l Notice the distinguished looking couple to your right. They are Emerson Roley and his wife Dr. Vera Mitchell Roley who have flown in from Brazil where he is American ambassador. Mrs. Roley is very affectionately greeted by Congresswoman, June Miller. VVith her are her friends, Nurses Bertha Hutchison and Catherine Captain, who were once her secretaries. Hmmm .... don't they look nice in their uniformsll' Look, walking across the field in a blue uniform is Earl Owens now an ensign in the Navy and in khaki, Lieutenant Steve Radock accompanied by the cartoonist-Bob Grazzinif' The ' are met by Joe Wozniak who now owns the largest coal mine in Arnofd City. Entering the field are Florence Mast, Mary Yusko, Helen Grunwald, Goldie Bennett and jennie Barnot who have become typists in the Majes- tic Airplane Factory of Mutieh, McKevitt and Bulger in Detroit, Michigan and are hoping that the flight back to the reunion may have some results in the matrimonial line. Two gray-haired matrons, the former Colleen Dillon and Mary Ellen Barker have left their Swanky Beauty Shoppe after twenty long years and have finally caught husbands. Everyone seems to be anxiously awaiting the speaker. At last he arrives accompanied by a member of the State Insane Asylum-none other than the famous brain specialist-Dr. Thomas Conway who with much gusto presents his old friend. If we had not heard of the change we would hardly recognize him-a man of wealth and distinction, a five foot waist line and an accumulation of avoirdupois in keeping with his dignity-our own Elmer Spiker, the famous New York attorney. ,lust as the speakerlfinishes his Howery oratory the only member of the class not accounted for rushes up and shakes his hand and we behold our old jokester-Paul Galla, the inventor. The tall gray haired man turns to me again and adds, Still a fine classn. 63 Glam Wal! The Class of 1945 of Marion High School has felt for some time that its demise was near. Therefore being so soon to pass from these scenes of educational activity and having faculties keenly sharpened by many con- tests in trying to elude the eyes of our teachers, we publish this our last will and testament. 1. To our Superintendent-Mr. Van Bremen the unfailing good humor and best wishes of thc entire class. 2. To our Principal-Mr. Springer a copy of Amateur Detective Suggestions which we are certain will be of great assistance in ferretmg out the pranks of various students and catching thc locker thief. 3.
