Telephone 175-J Marion, Kentucky Tucker Furniture Store 'First in Fine Home Furnishings for Every Taste Frigidaire Appliances j Youngstown Kitchens Telephone 175-R Marion, Kentucky : ■ Congratulations to the Class of '54 Possibly the most powerful thing in the world is education, and at present, the nations of the world seem to be concerned with that thing called power” more than with any- thing else in the world. The future of the world will depend upon the kind of education which this generation receives. And, in this connection, more than book larnin” will be required. It will go deeper, much deeper, than that. A character in one of Harold Bell Wright's books was made to say when sending his young daughter away to college for the first time, I ain't so oneasy about what she'll larn but about what she'll unlarn. Evidently, a lot of people in the world have been unlarning ' a lot of things but, we are convinced, for the most part at least, they did not unlarn them from the high schools and colleges of this land. In fact, the type and quality of teaching which has been done in the schools of our country surely has been of tremendous help, not only in holding this nation together, but in holding the world together. Our congratulations to those who have been the beneficiaries of such teaching—and we have had that kind of teaching in Marion High School since it was established, be- fore the turn of the century by Dr. Charles Evans. Our congratulations also to the School Board, to the teachers who have seen to it that Marion High School has given to its students the kind of educational advantages which place emphasis on first things —the things upon which a true democracy is founded and upon which its existence must and will depend.
