Its publication was dis- continued for ten years and then started again. On some pages of p this yearbook you willsee how the Hylander of 1926 compares with A the Hylander of today. One of the biggest changes made since the old yearbook is the spelling of its name from Highlander to Hylander. On each division page, you will see the Old Man carried for- ward from the 1926 Hylander. The editors sincerely hope that this book will hold a place in your heart for the fondest memories of Marion High School. Dedication Through deep appreciation, we dedicate this book to one who has so willingly devoted his interest and hard work to our athletic department 'and other phases of our school. His concern and encouragement has greatly influenced the lives of the students at Marion High School. For these reasons, we, the Hylander Club of 1961, dedicate our yearbook to Mr. Jim McFadden. 3 In Memoriam MR. JOSEPH L. NOYES - Gone away is a loyal friend of Marion High School, a supporter upon whom we often leaned for financial backing as well as the boosting of our morale. Mr. Noyes was never too busy to help a boy wina scholarship nor to have a word of Commendation for one who had worked or played hard and well. A keen sense of humor, a great faith in young people, a burning desire for progress characterized his chairmanship of the Marion School Board. To live in the hearts one leaves behind is not to die. 4 F , 'rt- ...--.4- K Jil! TW- ' .- ,. - ' , 4. -:Z ' -V ' 'f - ef., . . , -1 ., '7'i':f, ,,.. ,-'A -I fn .ff. . He is willing to listen to our problems, and then he tries to help us solve them. It is through his service and leadership that we have re- ceived encouragement to go forward. Administration Too few of the students at Marion HighSchool realize the great responsibilities and problems which face Mr. El- ledge and Mrs. Pyatt. Ful- filling the duties of principal and secretary of a high school is only a small part of their big job. Together, their jobs in- clude: truant officer, janitor, doctor, banker, chauffeur, and - orator. Besides these, Mr. Elledge alone is a successful insurance salesman, chiro- practor, a c t o r , comedian, and a champion golfer and bowler. Mrs. Joseph Pyatt Mr. Charles C. At first, the years seemed to drag by, as time drags only for an impetuous youth. But suddenly, as if by some extraordinary locomotion, adulthood stepped in, and the years started to glide by, much too swiftly for our own choosing. Not only have we gained academically, but socially and emotionally as well. We have known the estatic fun of the Washington trip, the pride in receiving class rings, the work and fun in producing the Senior play, and of course, memories of the Senior Christmas party. In a short time, we will receive our diplomas. These marklthe top of our first plateau in life. Many of us will climb to higher peaks, but others will remain on their first plateau. What- ever the case maybe, we are proud that Marion High School was the source of our development. It has always been sincere in its effort to aid the school and to uphold the standards of the Key Club. In this way it can fulfill its obligations as a Key Club and also be instru- mental in developing more in- telligent and serviceable citi- zens. The scope of its pro- gram is limited only by the ingenuity of the members. They are always able to find some project to undertake, but aside from the services and activities, the Key Clubber has to accept and promote the daily living of the Golden Rule, and promote the adoption of higher standards in scholarship, sportsmanship, and soc ial contacts. 5,5 ,., First Row: Mrs. Welborn, sponsor, Brenda Robinson, Barbara Kanipe, Juanita Parker, Brenda Moore, Brenda England, Patsy Reel, Nancy Young, Marsha Derey, Linda Minish, Bill Lonon, Dicky Johnson, Bill Hemphill, Dean Padgett.
