i wfffvfl B an., Od' '15 Q1 PRINCIPAL This is a red-letter year for Mr. Elledge: he entered the Marion schools at the same time as this year's graduating class. In fact, he entered the same school with many of them because in that year, 1948, Central Elementary and Marion High School were combined. For twelve years he has watched them grow physically and mentally, and he has grown in experience along with them. His working day is long. From the first telephone call in the morning, Are we going to have school today? or My bus has broken down or John has a sore throat and can't be at school today to a call from the police department at midnight, There is a window open in the back of the high school building, he works with hundreds of people. When summer comes and the horn in the west calls, he hies to the hills to be assistant director of the drama and play the mountain golf courses. Buteach Monday you may see him at his desk in Marion High School, finishing the work of one year and preparing for that of the next. SUPERINTENDENT Mr. Beam is the power behind the throne at Marion High School. The students do not see him every day, but they know he is working continuously for their best interests. He attends the ballgames, the plays, the concerts, and the banquets as well as the P.T.S.A. meetings. He is the cheerful advisor of any student, parent, or teacher who approaches him with a problem. While his office is maintained in the City Hall, he is never very far away from the work that is being done in the class- rooms and on the athletic fields of the Marion school system. F
