CLASS HISTORY-jCont'dl The sophomore class contribution to the foot- ball team was jim Bryson, Ned Noblitt, and Charles Ray Baker. Our contribution to dramatics was the presentation of Mammy's Little Wilti Rose. This year our oHicers were, Mike McCall, Presi- dent, Zane Dalton, Vice-President, Margaret Westmoreland, Secretary, and Bruce Cartier, Treas- urer. As juniors, our activities really began. Under the direction of Coach Hugh Beam and his assistant, Dan Hitchcock, the football team won the All-Conference Championship Title. It was during our junior year that the names, Charles Bolick, jack Beck, Ellis Norton, Ernest Poole, and Roy Hendly were added to the Serv- ice Flag of Marion High. In the spring of '42 we gave our class play, Don't Take MY Penny. By the helpful sug- gestions of Miss Hewell, Miss Bryan, Mrs. Hilde- brand and the splendid Cooperation of the cast, we gave a play that we were proud of. The next highlight of the year was junior- Senior Day. The juniors and seniors were given a whole day off in which to celebrate. In the morn- ing we took part in sports, in the afternoon we at- tended the theatre, and in the evening we ended our celebration with a party. Any observer could safely say that this was enjoyed more than a junior-Senior Banquet would have been. The greatest honor that Marion High School bestows upon its students was given to Elaine Pen- ninger, Mike McCall, and Howard Toney when they were elected into the Marion Chapter of the National Honor Society. Whatever success we attained as juniors was due largely to the interest and hard work of our sponsors, Miss Bryan, Mrs. Lonon and to our of- ficers, Ned Noblitt, President, jim Bryson, Vice- President, jack Walker, Secretary, and Alyce Houck, Treasurer. At last the title Senior was bestowed upon us. It was a great responsibility to live up to this name, but we got off to a good start by electing the following othcers: Howard Toney, President, Mike McCall and jack Walker, Vice-Presidents, and Ned Noblitt, Secretary-Treasurer. To add to our honor as seniors, Kathryn Ballew, Edith Bid- dix, Daphne Goodman, Lois Nance, and Millie Poteat were elected into the Marion Chapter of the National Honor Society. During the football season a contest was held to elect Miss Ripper. The whole school par- ticipated in this contest and elected Vivian Mor- gan, a girl from the Senior Class, Miss Ripper of '45. Several stars were added to the school's Service Flag during our senior year. These stars repre- sented Charles Ray Baker, Charlie McGimpsy, james Banks, and james Ray Robinson. These boys along with many others are fighting to make a better world for us as we finish our senior year and go out into the world as young men and WOIDCH. . . MILLIIE POTEAT, Hzirorzmz.
