Once again I was interrupted. This time it was a special delivery letter from Margaret Good, athletic director at St. Mary's. She had loads of information as to the whereabouts of our classmates. Von Ray Harris after forcing the japs from Australia, has settled down to live there on a sheep ranch. Darwin Willis still clings to his work in the navy as radio techni- cian and likes it so much that he declares he will never be a landlubber again. james Parker is a dentist in Egypt, Dottie Hensley has a championship basketball team in Cuba, jo Goins is a beauty operator in Des Moines, Iowa, Rachel Wilson is a florist in Kannapolis, N. C. SENIOR CLFISS PROPHECY LITTLE did I realize when I started my career as newspaper reporter for the New York Timex that it would bring me in contact with so many of my former classmates. As a hobby, I have kept all the clippings of stories pertaining to my school days, and while on my vacation, by way of diversion, I dug these from my tnrnk. Thumbing through these clippings the first thing that caught my eye was a huge picture of that glamorous movie star, Bonnie Kirby. Her latest production is Somewhere I Found You. Incidentally, our own Frances Smith played a minor role in this sensational produc- tion. Another picture that I noticed was that of Mary Jane Kluttz, famous singer at the Metro- politan Opera House There was an article on the girl Hazel Morrison who simply rooted Gene Krupa out Looking through the radio guide I noticed that sexeral of my old class mates had managed to make themselves famous Mary Leonard and her orchestra are heard nightly ox er station PUN K Every Thursday night one can pick up Tommy Gibson the famous comedian and Alvin Slim Wall and his Rhythm Boys vsho are capably taking the place of the Carter Family One article told of the outstanding work performed by ean Ray while in the WAAC s Now that the war is ox er ean is employed as stewardess on one of our ultra modern planes Libby Seagle also 1 former WA AC has settled down to school teaching In the sports section is 1 write up on ames Byrd football player for the Chicago Bears and a whole page featuring Clarence Blacks success as manager of the Boston Red Socks At the top of the society page of the Nea I me 'Inner vxhom should my eyes behold but our own attmctne Swanny Ricks? Swanny has just returned from London England where she has been gathering material for her new book Post War Etiquette Versus Pre War Etiquette amcs Banks one of Uncle Sam s pilots flew Gencrll MacArthur to a memorial service held ' ,T gga can te F -IEW mv in Arlington, Virginia. Pansy Robinson, dieti- tian from New York, recently returned from a visit with her old friend, Bonnie Owenby, sole owner of a chain of 5 8: 10c stores. A picture of joyce Church caught my eye, and upon read- ing the article, I learned that she is a missionary in India. Mildred Davis is head nurse in the General Hospital in Hickory. I had to part from my clippings long enough to answer the doorbell. It was the postman and among my mail was a letter from Louise Hens- ley, with whom I have been corresponding ever since high school days. just think! Louise is one of Charlotte's most prominent doctors. She had recently paid a visit to Marion, where she found a sur risingly large number of our old classmates filling local positions. Among the Marion High School teachers are Elaine Bowman English teacher Sara Laughlin Home Ec teacher Mary Swann Librarian and the band director none other than Harold Goodman Annie Sue Pittman Margaret Stevens and Virginia Younge are all efficient local secre taries Louise was surprised to find Bill Walker owner of one of Marion s most popular theatres the Oasis While on her visit Louise called on Pauline Rowland now married to her old high school beau William Laughrrdge Many of Marions lovellest homes are graced by a number of Marion Highs glamour girls basking content edly in domestic life Included among those so blissfully happy are Margie Smith Fannie Mae Snipes Rilla Ferguson and Virginia Emory Having finished Louise s letter I again settled myself to my clippings and read that T W McGallrard was still a lieutenant in the armed forces Opal Trmks has been giv ing lectures on Education Afton Lisenbee has twice won the Pulitzer prize for her poetry Wilma Messer is putting her ability as an artist into practice by assisting Walt Disney mth his cartoons and Sara jane Miller is hav ing a marvelous time traveling around with her wealthy husband Deep down in the bottom of my envelope of clippings my eyes caught these headlines Pam f,x WW slr r V vd, 4v X 5 7 V .
