6 7 Was The Year '67 was the year 20 new teachers and many new students entered the Marion High School environ- ment. Their energies typified the image of MHS's Giant of Youth statue in our library patio. Summer school P.E. students went through long hours of swimming, bowling, and baseball. Coronation Ball returned to the MHS agenda after a years absence. Prom, Homecoming, and musical and play dates added important variety. Coveted basketball, tennis, and golf trophies helped fill the display cases. From 116 subjects offered, each student chose those most interesting ana best -suited to him. These factors combined made MHS'ers realize that '67 was the year. 3 D

As the shifting seasons brought their variances in temperature, appearance, and weather, MHS students also assumed different dress, practiced various skills, and adopted altered behavior. Fall brought the first big event, Homecoming. Floats and decorated cars backed the Giants although rain de- layed the parade for the first time in six years of ob- servance. A pre-winter snowfall on November 3 caused stu- dent drivers many problems and closed Marion High School for a day. Car pushing became a common ac- tivity as parking registrations hit an all-time high of 539. Studying moved out-of-doors as the first green leaves of Spring appeared. Many students took advantage of the library patio. Summertime of 1966 found students taking bike hikes and swimming lessons to earn physical education credit. This was the first year for summer physical edu- cation at Marion, giving students a chance to partici- pate in many sports during a four hour class period. .W gi A I ',. 'lz ': 7' ff 'Mm,. 1.
