Comedy Per ormance Presenting a comedy play, the Stage and Stammer Club chose The Man Who Came to Dinner this year. Auditions were open to all MI-IS'ers interested in the three-act comedy, given November 18th and 19th. Producer-Director Mr. James Clark was assisted by fa- culty members and four production committees. Four performers, appearing in their first star roles, included Don Cline as Sheridan Whiteside, Judy Men- denhall as Maggie Cutler, Janet McKown, as Mrs. Earnest W. Stanley, and Fred Bradley as Bert Jeffer- son. The Man Who Came to Dinner centered around the household where Sheridan Whiteside, Broadway columnist, lived while recovering from a fall. Because he had fallen at their home, the Stanley's insisted that he and his secretary, Maggie Cutler, stay. Newspaper- man, Bert Jefferson, posed a problem to Whiteside's peace and to his chance of losing his secretary. The en- ergetic Editor-reporter not only managed to get his story, but also Maggieis hand in marriage. Whiteside disrupted the entire family and his nurse by being as mean as he had always been. In addition, when he was able to walk again, he neglected to men- tion it just so he could live off the Stanleys' a while longer. However, they found out and he was asked to leave, but as he was leaving he fell again. A movie actress, a love affair within the Stanley household, an aquarium of alligators, and many good actors and awk- ward situations added to the enjoyment of the play.

if ,3 MHS 'ers Per ormecl l'How To Succeed in Business Without Really Try- ing, the musical comedy given by MHS students and musicians was presented April 7th, 8th, 14th, and 15th in evening performances, and April 9th in one student matinee. McCulloch Auditorium, again the scene of a Marion High School production, became the World Wide Wicket Company of New York. George Garrett as Pierrepont Finch, Judy Mendenhall as Rosemary Pil- kington, Howards Detamore as B. Biggley, and Jane Ellis as Hedy LaRue enacted the leading roles. Finch, with the help of a book entitled How To Suc- ceed in Business Without Really Trying, climbed the business ladder from window washer to Chairman of the Board of B. Biggley's World Wide Wicket Com- pany. A secretary for the company, Rosemary Pilking- ton, immediately set her goals to marry Finch, who later also fell in love with her. She managed to get him useful information and to get him out of a few messes. After being a cigarette girl, beau- tiful Hedy LaRue came to the company at Biggley's request. However, none of the office men would hire her, since one man had already been sent out to a Vene- zuela office for dating her. Finch's rise, of course, was not without mishap. He was forced to put up with Biggley's nephew. .- 9 M 4 aa ' as . 'SSW
