This year an added attrac- tion was the election of Katie and Karl Cactus, chos- en to represent the typical Marion High School stu- dents. Voting for candidates was open to all attending the Frolic and ballots were the backs of admission tickets. The boy and girl selected were presented at the begin- ning of the floor show and reigned over it. Atlantic City Bathing Beauties pranced in hilarious highlight ot the tloor show. Participants shown are Eddie Cole, Jay Longacre, John Vardaman, Tex Sellars, Paul Linville, Ken Ohlemeyer, and Ronnie Achor. Skaters' Waltz, sequence repre- senting the North, featured Roger Hinkle and Martine Harris. Wolfe, Jim Drummond, and Joe Cain, took audience back to Gay Nineties with their rendition ot old-time songs.

Before an audience of 1800 people, Mar- ion High School presented its annual Cac- tus Frolic on Friday, November 11, 1949, 1 :ob Comer, emcee, crowned wilsline Srone and :ddie Ring as Typical nigh scnooi S'.'LlCfSHl'S. 4.1. X., .L.4... XLCJ f.fJ.w.M ,i 1 V, 7 . . ,.-f,, at Memorial Coliseum. The Cactus Frolic is a fund-raising project for the Marion High School yearbook, the Cactus. The entertainment varied from booths circling the inside of the Coliseum to a floor show and a dance later. The booths offered candy and flowers for sale, games of skill with prizes, and a white elephant sale. The theme of the floor show was Inside U. S. A. The program contained numbers by the chorus and the band and some spec- ialty numbers such as dances, a skating number, and the hilarious high-spot of the evening, the bathing beauty contest. Twelve boys participated in this, wearing Gay Ninetiesn bathing suits. he Faster 'T'vzmcz'ea The highlight of the year's social activities at Marion High School has long been the annual Easter Parade. Established in 1934, the event is the climax of Weeks of preparation followed by the selection of the queen and her attendants by the student body. Profits from the affair are used to supplement the school's general fund. Miss Mary James, a senior who reigned as queen, was crown- ed by Mr. Dean B. Smith, principal.
