C. H. S. They started the year off by electing John Cate, President: Donnie Webb, Vice-President: Sarah McGrew, Secretaryg and Ann Allen was appointed by the paper staff as the Junior reporter. The class representatives on the football squad were Tommy Runyon, Charles Sanders, Billy Saylors, Charles Bradam, Leland Miller, and Jimmy Willis. This year the team won the T. V. C. Championship. In boxing, Tommy Runyon, Jody Thomas, and Don Wilson represented the Juniors. The class had as repre- sentation on the Cheerleading Squad as follows: Freda Kirk, Sarah McGrew, and Julie Layne. When the Basketball uniforms were issued the lucky Juniors to receive them were: Freda Kirk, Sarah McGrew, Julie Layne, Sammy Featherston, John Cate, Donnie Webb, Mike Grigsby and Bobby Parker. The class elected Wanda Barker as Homecoming Queen Candidate. For the first time in the history of the school, there was an election of Annual Queen and King. The Junior candidates were Mary Io Hardy and Charles Sanders. The FFA chose Ollie Mae Brown for their queen and this gave the class another honor. Jimmy Willis was chosen as candidate for the FHA Sweetheart. Next on the list was the Who's Who contest in which these were elected: Freda Kirk, Jolliest Juniorg Wanda Barker, Best Dressed Girlg and Sarah McGrew, Most Dependable Girl. The Juniors are also well represented on the paper and annual staff. The class has been working hard all year to raise money for the annual trip to Fontana Village in the spring. However, a team consisting of 15 seniors, '7 juniors, 2 sophomores, and 9 freshmen, worked hard and victory began no be a habit. Ten victories, one tie, and no defeats became the magnificent record which clinched the T. V. C, Championship. Six boys were selected for the Sequatchie Valley All-Stars. They were: Freddie Ben- nett, tackle, Ben Braden, guardg David Sampson, tackle, Wilburn Cash, back: Robert Beene, back, Winfred Haggard, back. Bobby Lewis and Coach Latendress The Marion Boxing Team coached by Johnny Latendress and Joe Reeves went to the Golden Gloves at Frye Institute with high hopes in 1957. They came back with the Team Championship Trophy and the Most Valuable Boxer award was presented to Mike Lowrie. The Team, Captained by Bobby Lewis, consisted of eleven boxers. Out of these eleven boys, four won golden gloves and two won silver gloves. A silver glove is presented when a boxer is defeated in the finals. To win a golden glove you must de- feat everyone in your weight division. In 1958 Marion took her boxing team to Frye Institute for the Golden Gloves. This time with not such a large team, only four boxers. The 1958 team was not quite so successful. Two of the team, Mike Lowrie and Gordon Howard reached the finals. This group of girls elected Sandra Lowrie as their Captain. Under the guidance of their sponsor Mrs. John O. Adams, they spent many homs in practice, decorating goal posts, arranging for parades, and other-wise working to keep up team morale and to inspire the fans to back the team with enthusiasm. A week was dedicated to electrical farming, and the Sequatchie Valley Electric Co. brought a large dis- play to our school. This year, as every year, the boys took part in the Sear's pig chain, entered judging teams in various competitions, and planned many other projects.
