HISTORY OF SENIOR CLASS In the fall of 1951, fourteen members of the class of 1963 began their education by entering the first grade of Marion County Elementary School. These pupils are Kenneth Davis, Evelyn Dillard, Larry Henson, Eileen Icard, Karen Kemp, Elaine Powell, Hall Rogers, Andy Singleton, Patty Swint, Brick Wells, Alice Williams, Kathryn Wooldridge, Bruce Youngblood. The other fifteen members of our class have joined us since that first year. Our freshman year began in 1959 when we were privileged to have Mrs. Rosa Pryor and Miss Evie White as our sponsors. That year we numbered fifty-nine. Our class president was Alice Williams. Several of our members went with the band to Jacksonville, Florida, that year to the Gator Bowl. The sponsors for our Sophomore year were Mrs. Louise Lowe and Mr. Joe Price. We were now forty-three in number. Larry Henson and Alice Williams were presidents of the two sections. During that year our boys' basketball team made its first trip to the state Class C tournament, losing in the semi-finals. Mrs. Lowe was again our sponsor for our Junior year. Our class had decreased by ten mem- bers, now totaling thirty-three. Mike Rankin served as our president. In September, seven of our classmates were tapped into the Beta Club. We were busy this year making money for the Junior-Senior Prom which was held on May 11, 1962. We enjoyed planning and decorating for the prom. Our theme was Roman Holiday. Our boys’ basketball team again traveled to the state tournament. This time we copped the Class C title. Our sponsor was Mrs. Pearl Garrett for our senior year. Mr. Lloyd Cleveland was associate sponsor. Brick Wells was elected president of the class of twenty-nine. The following have been members of the Marion County Red Fox Band: Evelyn Dillard, Ronnie Hall, Larry Henson, Eileen Icard, Bonnie McDaniel, Mike Rankin, Patty Swint, Reuben Tyler, and Alice Williams. The following have played on the basketball teams: Becky Pilcher, Elaine Powell, and Fannie Powell; Kenneth Davis, Ronnie Hall, Larry Henson, Mike Rankin, Andy Singleton, Brick Wells, and Bruce Youngblood. Those who have served as cheerleaders are Janice McMickle, for two years, and Kathryn Wooldridge for three years. During our high school years Kenneth Davis served as president of the Student Body and the Future Farmers of America; Alice Williams, president of Future Homemakers of America and the Beta Club; Karen Kemp, vice-president of the District Library Club; Mike Rankin, president of the Student Council; Kathryn Wooldridge, president of the FBLA; Patty Swint, president of FBLA. Honors won by members of the Senior class include the crowning of Patty Swint as Marion County Poultry Queen, with Alice Williams as first runner-up; Karen Kemp, winner of the Betty Crocker Homemaking Award; Kenneth Davis and Bruce Youngblood, members of the Land Judg- ing Team that won the state meet; Alice Williams, named Miss FHA. Mike Rankin won the title of Star Student of our class. We, the class of 1963, wish to express our appreciation to our faculty, parents, and friends for the help and understanding they have given us in our years at M. C. H. S.
