A '- ‘ History of the Senior Class In nineteen hundred and forty-eight eleven members of the class of 1960 began their first year of education at Marion County High School with Mrs. Mary Lou Burgin as their teacher. These members are Arthur Boyett, Mary Jo Brady, Charles Clements, Tommy Chapman, Jerry Henson, Jettie Sue Kamp, Amos Kemp, Albena Mathews, Bobby McCorkle, Cecil Butch Mc- Mickle, and Barbara Powell. Annette Anthony, Larry Joyner, Sybil Phillips joined our class from Brantley School in the seventh grade. Others to trans- fer to Marion County High from other schools in the county are Annie Rose Fuller and Clyde Grimsley from Oakland, Lucile O’Hearn and Jane Wells from Tazewell, Joyce Simmons, Waymon Tyler, and Nell Welch from Drane- ville. When we entered the Freshman Class in high school, September, 1956, there were fifty-two of us. Our sponsors were Miss Betty McCorkle and Mrs. Louise Lowe. Bill Tom Wooldridge and Barbara Powell were the presidents of die two home rooms. We became Sophomores in 1957 under die sponsorship of Miss Evie White and Mrs. Pearl S. Garrett. Altiiough there were two home rooms, there was only one set of officers. Barbara Powell again served as president of the class. Our school year was saddened by the sudden death of one of our classmates, Faye Daniel. Glenda Veal moved to McRae, Georgia, during that year. In the fall of 1958 we became Juniors with Mr. B. G. Moores as our spon- sor. There were thirty members in the class at the beginning of the year. Mary Jo Brady served as president of the class. During the fall and winter months we were busy making money running the concession stand at the ball games. The highlight of the year was entertaining the Seniors at the annual Junior-Senior Prom-Dance. We chose as our theme, Moonlight and Roses. This event was held in the school cafeteria. The spotlight was focused on the crowning of a Senior King and Queen. Jimmy Roberts and Mary Nell Harbuck were crowned King and Queen by Arthur Boyett, a member of the Junior Class. We were fortunate to have Mr. Moores as sponsor during our Senior year, 1959-'60. At the year’s beginning our enrollment was twenty-seven. Sybil Phillips and Annette Daniel withdrew during the first semester leaving our number twenty-five. The following have contributed much and have learned much from our Red Fox Band: Mary Jo Brady, Charles Clements, Jerry Henson, Jettie Sue Kemp, Larry Joyner, A lbena Mathews, Barbara Powell, and Bill Tom Wooldridge. We had several students who have starred on the basketball and baseball teams. They are Nell Welch, Rocky Wade, Arthur Boyett, and Jack Wyrick. Our class members were also interested in club work. They took an active part in F. H. A.. F.F.A., Beta Club, Business Club, and Co-Ed Hi-Y. We should like to thank Marion County High School for many happy mem- ories we have gathered during our school days.
