Our King and Queen, LaVerne Anthony and Walker Williams, won the Halloween Carnival contest. Several Freshmen were basketball players and members of clubs. In 1953, we became Sophomores, sponsored by Mrs. Pearl Short. Tommy Rogers was president of the forty-four members, including William Wells, Clayton Harbuck, Phillip Harbuck, Rogers Stamper, and Carolyn Caffee, who were new among us. We lost during the year Louise Crawley, LaVerne Anthony, Tommy Jones, Carolyn Caffee, and Verna Foster. Basketball, Band, and Glee Club were our main activities. Molly Jo Bond was in the contest play, Pink and Patches. ” Alex Miller and Molly Jo were our Halloween King and Queen. Annette Harbuck and Harold Icard were the year's candidates for Halloween King and Queen. The Junior Class won the Field Day Trophy in the first annual Field Day Program. The Junior-Senior Prom, with the theme of Song of the Islands, was the high point of the year. As usual, our class participated in all sports and clubs. In the fall of 1955, thirty-four pupils became Seniors under the sponsorship of Mr. A. L. Brown and the presidency of Wayne Garrett. Four Seniors are double-first cousins: Carolyn and Phillip Harbuck, sister and brother; and Annette and Clayton Harbuck, sister and brother. We have twins: Bobby and Billy Jones; and two brothers: Joe and Alex Miller. One student. Alva Turner, moved away, leaving our enrollment thirty-three. Carol Stewart and Clayton Harbuck represented us in the Halloween Carnival. Five Senior boys were in the contest play, Submerged. We have many basketball players. Band members, Cheerleaders, and one Majorette. Every Senior has put forth much effort toward raising funds for the Senior Trip to Washington, D.C. The trip will be the last big event of the year before the Graduation programs. The Class of '56 is sincerely grateful for the excellent attention, instruction, and advantages we have received at dear old Marion County High School.
