These are: Bill Williams, Philip Harris, Sue Rogers, Clyde Pow- ell and Patsy Nutt. The other twenty-five members transferred from other schools at some time during their twelve school years. As the first Freshman Class under the new twelve-year system, which began operation in 1949-50 we were the transition class. Our president that year was Mack Phillips. G. W. Hutto and Ann Cannon represented our home-room as King and Queen in the Hal- loween Carnival. We had three boys and three girls on the basketball teams. In 1950-51, we became Sophomores under the sponsorship of Mrs. Louise Lowe. Bill Williams was our class president. Carroll Hutchinson and Jeanette Weaver were elect- ed our Carnival King and Queen. Since there was no Junior Class that year because of the transition we gave the Seniors a banquet, using the Dutch theme. Several Soph- omores were admitted to Masque and Gavel, and five were eligible for the Beta Club. We became upperclassmen in our Junior year, 1951-52. As there was no Senior class, we were the top class in school. Mrs. Jack Johns was our sponsor during the first sem- ester, and Mr. Milton Fletcher during the second semester. Our class president was Philip Harris. Billy Phillips and Helen Foster were chosen King and Queen of the Carni- val. We began raising money for our Senior trip by selling magazine subscriptions and Christmas cards. We also had a barbecue and a square dance for the same purpose. Several new members were taken into Masque and Gavel, and two more were initiated into the Beta Club. Now we are Seniors. It has seemed a long road to us. because when we started out we expected to finish in eleven years. We became the first ninth grade Freshmen when the school changed over to the twelve-year plan. However, we are not sorry, as we have enjoyed every minute of it. Miss Mary I. Brown is our class sponsor, and we are grateful to her for her guidance in all our money-making endeavors. The goal of nearly all our activities has been to make enough money to finance a class trip to Washington,D. C., after graduation. We have carried on various fund-raising projects, such as: selling magazines, Christmas cards, pencils, stationery, advertising space for the annual and candy, drinks and sand- wiches at the ball games. Our class president is Clyde Powell. G.W. Hutto and Ann Cannon were our King and Queen of the Carnival. Seven Seniors are members of the Beta Club. We had thirty members in the class at the beginning of the year, but Chrstine McMickle and Jimmy Bishop transferred to other schools at the end of the first semester, leaving twenty-eight in the first graduating class under the twelve-year plan. c---------- ROLAND BENSON, President JEROME STUDDARD, Vice President MARGARET PILCHER, Secretary JANIS GOODROE, Treasurer SHIRLEY STEWART.
