Only eight of us have secured our entire eleven years of schooling in Buena Vista. They are: Caroline Wight, Lawrence Wight, Tru McAllister, Edmond Kemp, David Cook, Warren Garrett, Linton Carter, and Gwen Robinson. The rest of us have transferred from other schools through the years. Our Freshman year, 1947-48, was an exciting one for us all. Sixty-four pupils were enrolled under the Sponsorship of Mrs. Pearl Short. The year was filled with activities new to us. There was a great deal for us to learn, but we still found time for several parties during the year and a very wonderful picnic at the end of the year. In 1948-49, we were Sophomores in every sense of the word. We were older, more sophisticated, and much more educated. There were only forty of us that year as a result of laziness, marriage, old age, and various other reasons. Mrs. Short was again our Sponsor. We considered ourselves too grown-up for kid parties, but we entered into the extra-curricular activities of Drama and Basketball with enthusiasm. Thirty-eight of us became Juniors in 1949-50 under the Sponsorship of Mrs. Louise Lowe. Our president was Everett O'Hearn. Most of that year was spent in raising funds for the Junior-Senior Banquet, held May 20th, with an Old Colonial motif. There were 13 of us in Drama, and 3 boys and 5 girls in Basketball. At the Halloween Carnival we were represented by Martha Foster and Warren Garrett, who were crowned Queen and King. Thirty-four potential graduates are in the Senior Class of 1950-51. Besides those, four special students, who were caught in the transition and will not receive their diplomas until 1952, are counted in the Senior Class, making thirty-eight in all. Our main interest has been gathering enough funds for a class trip to Washington, D. C. We are grateful to our Sponsor, Mrs. Mary Pierce Johns, for her wonderful help in all our money-making ac- tivities. We have made a good showing this year in extra-curricular activities--13 being mem- bers of Masque and Gavel, 14 members of the Beta Club, 6 members of the Basketball teams, 5 Cheerleaders, 12 F. H. A. girls, and 12 F. F. A. boys. We were represented in the Halloween Carnival by Caroline Wight and Hurshel Cullefer, who won the titles of Queen and King and gave our class the honor of being a second year winner of the trophy. Our Class has the double distinction of being the last class to graduate under the eleven- year system, and the first to graduate in the beautiful new school building completed in September, 1950. This is the third year of the transition. In 1948-49, the Eighth Grade, which was previously the first year of high school, was made a part of the Junior High School, and we had no Freshman Class. In 1949-50, we had no Sophomore Class. This year, 1950-51, we have no Junior Class. In 1951-52, we shall have no Senior Class. The first class to graduate under the completed twelve-year plan will be the Class of 1953.
