They Always Gave Their Time To Help Others. They Have Left A Special Place In Our Hearts. And Have Shown Us The True Meaning Of Dedication. Gustave Anglin Headmaster Your class of 1982 is unique in many ways. It is composed of many students who have been with us for six years, ever since the inception of the Mario Umana School. Also, your members are young people with deep sense of camaraderie, brotherhood and committment, despite the cynicism and prejudice of others in your generation. Your academic goals and achievements have remained intact throughout the six years you have been affiliated with this school. Finally, you have shared an uncommon concern for the welfare and values of the underclass men and women in this school for whom you serve as role models. When you leave this institution which has helped to foster your special qualities, | hope that you will maintain your personal committments to high standards in brotherhood, academic or career goals, and your personal lives. Only through your efforts will the uniqueness of your years at the Mario Umana School continue to serve as a model for others. I thank you for your contributions to this school and, | extend to you my best wishes for a happy and productive life. ONAV EDUCAT Assistant Headmaster Dominic Amara Department Heads Mr. D. H. This is difficult to do as there are always aspects of the whole game which are almost always overlooked. The team completed its season with an impressive record of 7 wins and 7 loses. Our original goal was to win l4 games and go on to the state tournament. We realized that this goal was not to be accomplished after our loss to South Boston High, which went on to win the City Division, as well as the State Championship Division. the strong point of this year’s team was its exceptionally quick guards: T. Portis, H. Horne, M. Harris. This kept us in most games, although we had some difficulties with opponents like Hyde Park and South Boston because of a lack of centers and big forwards. This meant that players like Quint Smith, Fitzroy Brown, and Eric Morash had to work twice as hard because of a height disadvantage. 54 BOYS BASKETBALL- ANDREW ROBERTS We fought to the end of every game, Some we won and some lost in vain, We ran our offense with an effective flow, While many supporters cheered us to pGOr! Our starting five gave it their best shot, But unfortunately many baskets would not drop, We stuck together through thick and thin, Because we are the EAGLES we play to win. Janet Chin, Coach Joyce, Capt. Cleo Seay Hockey The Umana Eagles skated to one of their most successful seasons. They finished with an eight win, four loss, and two tie record and qualified for both the city and state hockey championships. Spearheading this year’s sextet were seniors Jack ‘The Rock” Leffel, Keith “Mr. Versatile” Bean, Dave ‘Most Im- proved Player” Timony, Bill “Hi Karate” Quinn, and co- captains Ken “Hit The Post” Flagg, and Mike “Irish” Te- venan. Underclassmen Mike “Hit Everything That Moves” Bean, Rich “Tip In” Sanfilippo, Joel ‘Killer’ Demass, Mark “The Plugger” Kelley, Frank “Mr. Hustle” Avery, Wayne “What Me Coach?” Rossi, Mike ‘The Monster” Miller and Arthur “Pr etty Boy’ King added valuable offensive sup- port. Eric “Gold Chain” Powers provided solid goaltending throughout the year. Nothing came easy for this year’s team. They started out strong, hit a mid-season skid, and faced the final five games needing a winning streak. They did just that. They outgunned Copley, Jamaica Plain, and Brighton; came from behind to tie West Roxbury; and scored in the last minute to defeat out-of-league rival Minuteman Tech. The Umana salutes this year’s seniors for their contribu- tion to the athletic program. Many were around for the first Umana game in 1976; many enjoyed playing in two state tournaments; and all will remember the ups and downs of their high school hockey careers. We wish you luck in the future. While the team re- cord was not impressive, the improvement and spirit shown by the girls was very gratifying. We, the Coaches, congratulate their efforts and look forward to more successful season next year. Coaches: Christine Delorie and Paul Delorie 61 Bowling? BASEBALL Top Row L to R D. Blades, F.
