Class Log: 1981 Umana Seniors STAR DATES: 1976-1981 The following is a report of the voyage of the Senior class of Umana Tech. It’s 5 year mission, has been to explore new fields, to seek out new friends and new cultures, to boldly learn what no class has learned before ..... STAR DATE: 1976-77 school year School opens . .. we enter as 8th graders and are the youngest here .... athletic building still under construction .... gym class in the auditorium . . .no walls between classes ... we fight for graduation from grade 8 to high school, we lose ... . sports teams saw few victories ... . awards day the beginning of an annual event . . . . cold lunches receive poor reviews ....... STAR DATE: 1977-78 school year We enter into the world of high school as freshmen . . . . responsibility, choices, young adults . . . transfers present new faces in the crowd.... exploratory class which consists of a term of each tech area... . choose between Jr. R.O.T.C. and History .... walls are now being built to separate classrooms .... the beginning of 2 annual events; R.O.T.C. Military Ball and the International Festival . . . . gym and pool are in use... . still few victories in sports .... heat wave, classes went outside . . . no change in lunches 2. 2o5 ese. STAR DATE: 1978-79 school year Now we are Sophomores . . . . school is very hot .... field trips to the airport and Harvard .... the football team won a game... sports improved with Girl’s Varsity Track becoming District and City Champs, Girl’s Bas- ketball and Boy’s Hockey both qualify for the State Tournament .... “the great food fight’... . the Sophomore Social, what a party .... chose a tech area... make new friends ....a start for more annual events including a pep rally, the Ist and last Miss Umana, R.O.T.C. Awards Banquet and the Valentine’s Day Dance... . we get hot lunches .. . STAR DATE: 1979-80 Our Junior year begins .. . . the tall ships enter Boston... . trip to Thompsons Island to meet sailors from the tall ships. . . . stink bombs, very popular .... Anthony Mattaliano gets his wings ... . attendance now being done by computers .... The Junior Prom... no pep rally .... go to the theater to see the Taming of the Shrew... . . Girl’s Track again City Champs ....Girl’s Softball qualify for the State Tournament .... improvement in all sports .... Ist annual Carnation Day .... we still get hot lunches however the taste is nothing to be desired... STAR DATE: 1980-81 school year Finally we become Seniors .... so much to do.... Ist Senior Art class.... Ist Yearbook class .... the school gets a store... . start thinking about the future, college, work, military ....BUS STRIKE .... very cold year .... class trips, cruise, skiing . . . . Football team becomes Division Champs. . . . Fall pep rally ... Winter pep rally ... . flexible campus-work . . . . college courses .... financial aid... forms and applications .... deadlines .... cutting class .... this is our year .... class rank. ... we are all good friends . . . . Girl’s Basketball Tournament qualifiers . . .. spending money left and right... Senior Prom....class day .... Senior Hook Day...... Projections for the future .... spring sports look good . . . . Graduation and the parties to go with it .... good luck ... the best thing about leaving is we don’t have to eat those lunches any more... signing out: LOG OFFICERS Maria Cavaleri and Christine Early
