Shelly Friedstcin reads a tale he has written in Miss Greene's senior English class. English One of the most outstanding traits of a well-educated person is his use of the Eng- lish language. Our English department strives to impress on the student the import- ance of good grammar, a sizeable vocabu- lary, and a knowledge of the literary works. English is required from the seventh through the eleventh grades and recom- mended in the twelfth, especially for college. Don Drown and Marlene Lahaie lead the Grand March for the Junior Prom. Don Drown was chosen to represent his class as Others in the court were Jane Bannow, junior presi- Prom King, and he chose Marlene Lahaie to be his dent, and her escort, Dave Linser, Pat DesJardin and queen. She was crowned before the grand march with Judy. Hansen, Lynne Johnson and Allen Manns, Pete a crown of red roses, and she had red roses in her Wood and Sharon Gould, and Tom LaFountain and colonial bouquet. Margie Kamin. Rebecca Hammes, Carlyle Dewey, and Harry White look absorbed as they translate their Spanish. Languages Marinette High School offers to the stu- dents two languages. One is Latin, the basis of all languages, and the other is Spanish, the main language in over half of the West- ern Hemisphere. ln our modern days of fast transporta- tion, the need for a knowledge of more than one language has increased. Two years of each language is equivalent to one year in college. The second year Latin students study their assignment for the next day. Tom Dewey, Margie Gould, Donna Stevenson, Jim Cook, Ann Tjaden, and Elizabeth Ruby are busy writing a test in Spanish I. 29
