Mr. Molander explains trigonometric functions in his own dynamic fashion. Rube Goldberg equipment is part of Mr, Joslin's class. W. Lieburn, V. Landerman, B. Oakwood, B. Wagner and P. Snare start an oxygen experiment. Mathematics Mathematics is one of the most important subiects taught in M.H.S. Our world today, would be as back- ward and uncivilized as the Paleolithic Age, if Mathe- matics had not been taught on as wide a base as it has been. The many inventions and improvements in the world conditions would have been impossible. General Arithmetic is taught in seventh and eighth grade Math classes, and the main activity of the Basic Math Class was to learn how to interpret and fill out Income Tax Blanks, a procedure which will be helpful to them, the rest of their lives. Our Solid Geometry Classes are carrying on some very interesting proiects. They have constructed geometrical designs with thread, and pencil work. The Algebra and Trigonometry Classes have devoted most of their time to calculating problems by advanced methods.

Intelligent living in a democracy of proficiency in the fundamentals form of communication: listening, thinking, and primary techniques are grammar, usage, dic- requires a high degree of language arts. lt is necessary for students to acquire the ability to read in- telligently, to interpret meaning accurately, and to examine critically what they read. Therefore, a well-balanced program offering opportunity in wide and varied reading is provided. This program in literature is so planned as to help the stu- dent sense and maintain the democratic way of life, enrich personal living and deepen sympathetic understanding of others, acquire a knowledge of man's struggle for freedom, and gain a respect for the cultures of other nations. An increasing free and effective interchange of ideas, is also vital to life in a democracy. The English program recog- nizes this point of view and provides for a continuous plan of functional speaking writing: conversation, formal and informal discussion, reports, parliamentary procedure, letter writing. For students interested in journalism and in special train- ing in speaking, elective courses are offered in speech qmd iournalism. , .I
