Felch paced the attack with three trips to pay-dirt and better than nine yards per try, while Jim Marineau was outstanding in the defense department. The squad lost the services of Captain Jim Derusha because of a back injury. MARINETTE VS. EAU CLAIRE The Purple and White blasted the unbeaten Old Abes 32-13 for the second win of the season. Deadlocked 13-13 at half-time the Marines took full control in the third and fourth periods. Quar- terbacking by Wes Bair, touchdowns by Felch and Pazdera, and a goal line catch by Bob Payne proved to be the deciding factors. John Kunesh played a great defensive game as Marinette's entire line completely stalled the invaders. Roger Schewe can't be stopped. IR ge Fc rtyfizne Ii's that I-'elch again. MARINETTE VS. WEST ALLIS CENTRAL Marinette returned home, the victor, over Coach Stiehm's old alma mater, West Allis Central. They came out on the better end of a 20-0 score to rack up their third straight win of the year. Pazdera led the scoring parade by scampering twice for tallies in a game which featured an eighty yard kickoff return. Good offensive and defensive power was shown as Marinette kept the game well in hand. Don Stepniak also scored to climax another drive. MARINETTE VS. TOLLESTON Four in a row was the cry as the Marine gridmen defeated Tolleston of Indiana 20-6. Hal Als- wager played a bang-up game at end by catching a touchdown pass as well as displaying good defensive work. Gotcha! F I The Stiehm Rollers were really rolling as Felch racked up two more with quarterback Wes Bair convertng. The last period proved to be a slam-bang affair with lots of thrills. MARINETTE VS. ESCANABA Marinette kept the victory wagon rolling by blanking the Eskymo eleven 39-0. The first half featured terrific llne play as the Marines ground out a 26-0 score. Pazdera. the outstanding runner, scored three times and racked up a classy 10.9 yard average. The second half was injury and flareup time, together with a great aerial battle. Line-backer John Kunesh provided a thrill and the f.nal touchdown on a 65 yard gallop on an Eskymo pass interception. MARINETTE VS. MENOMINEE Our Purple and White gridders ended the season in a burst of pigskin glory by blanking their across-the-river arch iivals 18-0. High tension and injuries made it extremely difficult for both teams, but the fighting Marines rolled over all Maroon obstacles. In Marinette's m'ghtiest defensive play of the year, the team displayed tremendous blocking and tackling, and held the highly rated Maroons to a scant 23 yards. Bob Pazdera again featured in the scoring. The fleet half-back swept the enemy line for 23 yards and 2 yards for touchdowns. Jerry Balthazor booked another one on a ten yard heave from Wes Bair. This was the Marines' sixth straight win of the year and their second successive victory in the M and M classic. One can hardly pass by without hearing many varied and beautiful sounds coming from the class room and the yarious practice rooms. The band is under the outstanding leadership of Mr. Kenneth Emmons. It is a large and well balanced organization consisting of sixty-five students. The Senior Band displayed the true Marine spirit by appearing at all home football games. putting on between-half programs and performing excellently at Escanaba. where they went for their out-of-town trip. Appearing at the basketball games they added much to the enjoyment of the games for everyone. The band had a full and successful schedule. which included the Christmas concert. performing with the other organizations of the Music Department: paradesg and the all important Music Festi- val. held in Oconto this year. To assist Mr. Emmons. the band elected a corp of officers who were: President. Ken Hocking: Vice-President, Dino Georgalang Secretary, Carol Schnellg Student Director. Dick Cook: and Majorette. Their program of activities included the traditional pre-Christ- mas caroling in the halls and the Christmas Concert. D The choir was made up of a combination of fifty-seven male and female voices, including Sopranos, altos. tenors and basses. Guy Johnson. with his artistic interpretations, very ably ac- companied the choir. Page Seventy-Six f 2 I The Big Four Piano H 4 Quartet p r e - ' sented a spe- ci a l student assembly. Appearing in formals for the first time since robes were purchased. the girls made a striking appearance as well as performing magnificently at the Fall concert. A new feature added this year to the Christmas Concert was caroling from the balcony. which contributed much to the beauty and success of the performance. Do those Words hold magic for you. Then. you are well suited for work on the Whipurnette, our school annual. The 1951 Whipurnette is an attempt to present a modern conception of life as it goes on behind the doors of Marinette High. The entire staff has worked hard trying to present a good all-around portrayal in the pages of the annual. It is a long and tedious job requiring the staff to devote a great deal of their time and energy to its completion.
