THEME In the year 1635, the citizens of Boston, then in its fifth year of existence, met, and realizing the superlative importance of and need for educational facilities, established the Boston Latin School, the first free public school in America. For three centuries the public schools have been advancing, developing, and improving, They have undergone many changes in curriculum, buildings, and faculty qualifications, un- til now they encompass the best of facilities for giv- ing the pupils the basic and fundamental scientific principles necessary for success in life.
