OMMAN AN Colonel Tom D. Parsons, U.S.M.C. fRet.j, graduated from the Uni States Naval Academy and upon graduation was commissioned a Sec- ond Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. Ordered to Korea, he served as a platoon leader with the First Battalion. lst Marines. Tours as a com- an grade officer followed in Pearl Harbor, Annapolis, Maryland: P Y Camp Leieune, N.C.Q and Pueblo, Colorado. ted Colonel Parsons attended the Command and Staff College and in- structed at the Amphibious Warfare School until l968. He commanded the 2nd Battalion, 28th Marines and subsequently became the assis- tant to the Senior Marine Advisor to Vietnamese Marine Corps. He I ted 30 years of Marine service at Marine Corps Development 8 f comp e Education Command at Quatico, Virginia, where he was also Chief o Staff to the Commanding General. came to the Academy in August of i979 to assume the Col. Parsons position of Cammandant of Cadets. Although fairly new to the Acade- m ,he is respected by the Corps of Cadets S faculty for his fairness and Y straightforwardness. A native of Kentucky, he served in the Marine Corps for over 24 years, seeing action in the Pacific during World ar ll and a ain in the Korean Conflict. He came to the Academy In l969 8 from Catholic High School in Memphis, Tenn., where he activated the ' ' 8 h 3rd MCJROTC unit in the Country. From l972 through l97 e coached the Physical Fitness team, which won the National Youth Physical Fitness Award in I973 and 6 national competitions. ln l979 he became coach for the Boxing Team, which is now considered one of the best teams in the Valley.
