SUPERINTENDENTS' OFFICE Maj. Cen. Spanjer entered the Naval cadet program in 1941 after three years at New York University. As a Marine Aviator in WWII, he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and five Air Medals. During the Korean war, Cen. Spanjer again flew combat and earned another D.F.C. and four more Air Medals. He went on to serve two tours in Vietnam. His last assignment before retirement in December, 1977 was commander, Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic. Maj. Cen. Spanjer has an MA in International Relations and completed the Harvard Advanced Management Course. Ms. Doris Hines, Secretary to the General Q if is I 1 Col. Iames R. O'Mara, USMC CRet.J Col. O'Mara enlisted in the Marine Corps in Iuly, 1941 and spent most of WW II in the Pacific in various communication and electronic assignments in Marine Aviation. He left active duty at the end of the war as a Warrant Officer. He then earned his BA Degree at Bowling Creen University. He was recalled to active duty in Korea and commissioned as Second Lieutenant. In Vietnam he served as communication- electronics officer of the First Marine Division. Upon his return to the U.S., he held the same position in the Third Marine Aircraft Wing which he helped form 28 years earlier. He later became Wing C-2. Col. O'Mara's awards include the Legion of Merit and Navy Commendation Medal, both with the Combat V and the Ioint Service Commendation Medal. He is married to the former Martha Rowe of Creenville. BUSINESS OFFICE Keeping track of the accounts receivable and payable and management of all the Academy funds is a big job, and everyone naturally feels his own pet projects should have precedence.
