When it came time to choose a theme for the 1976 Pass in Review, we knew it had to be something very special to cele- brate America's Bicentennial Birthday. We wanted to join our fellow Americans in saluting our land. Throughout the nation cities and towns were busily planning pageants, special exhibits, and countless other ways to let the world know how proud we are of our heritage. So. we here at the Marine Military Academy realized our theme had to reflect the pride WE 'felt in the two hundred years of growth and achievement which make The United States of America the world power it is today. At the same time the Academy would be celebrating its own birthday, for 1976 represents the tenth year of our school's exist- ence. The Marine Military Academy is the nation's only Marine oriented military preparatory school, and our birthday coin- cides with two hundred years of existence of thc inspiration upon which our school was founded- The United States Marine Corps. The problem of how to extend our congratulations to all three on an equal basis was quickly solved when we 'chose the cover design for the 1976 yearbook. Everyone at the Academy is proud of the beautiful painting entitled American Youth - The Spirit of 76 which Dmitri Vail, the world famous portrait artist, presented to the Academy last year. For this reason we contrasted the new Spirit of 76 with thc equally famous painting The Spirit of 1776 by an early American artist. We felt the contrast between these two examples of American spirit, past and present, would lct everyone 'know this year the spirit to achieve, better yet to excel , in all we did was evident in .every phase of our school life here at Marine Military Academy. Enrollment was up, cadet morale was outstanding, our athletic teams were top-rated in all sports, new Academic comses were challenging the minds of all students, as n dedicated administration, faculty and military department led the way to make this year of 1916 the biggest and the best in Academy history. . ' We , the staff of the 19'76 Pass in Review, feel that in this yearbook, we have ,paid due homage to our country., our inspira- tion, -and our school , and as you glance through its pages you will see that the Spirit of JG is indeed a very .real thing for the cadets of the Marine Military Academy. as ---anus:-N +' -
