4 Ifl DEDICATION 21 . wt We may forget functions and fig- ures, but we will never forget the man who planted them in our minds. For the help and patience in the classroom, and time and effort spent in extracurricular activities, we, the an- nual staff of Marine City High School, wish to express our appreciation by dedicating the 1971 Mariner to James F. Olde. MR. MRS. JAMES F. All these things together have helped to make this anoth- er successful year. 4 HOMECOMING 1970 5 ROYALTY Queen Betty Lou Ledford Debbie Holland, Senior Lori Biskner, Senior n 6 IN ACTION Marsha Kundrick, Sophomore Barbara Russell, Freshman Even though on the surface M.C.H.S. Homecoming appeared a loss, the spirit was there. From snake dance to the game, the flame of the bonfire burned on. Smiling faces, blaring horns, flying eggs, and the fighting Mariners edged us through another Home- coming. 8 L . P€ ENTRY COOES KfCtiVAL TO STORE . Mr. Cotten received his Bachelor of Arts at Central Michigan. He then went on and received his Masters degree at Michigan State. The students and faculty hope that Mr. Cotten’s stay at Marine City High School is filled with luck and success. For instance, did you know that they head all class elections besides Student Government elections? They also take full charge of all homecoming activities, including election of representatives, bonfire, decoration of the gym, and after game dance. Many members have given up the privilege of watching home football and basketball games so that you could have refresh- ments. Our Student Government also is a member of the St. Clair Area League Stu- dent Council which includes Algonac, Anchor Bay, Chippewa Valley, Cros-Lex, Marine City, Marysville, Port Huron Catholic, and St. Clair. Tom Beckett, our President, is also the Vice President and Parliamentarian of the SCALSC. The 1970-1971 Student Govern- ment officers of Marine City High are Tom Beckett-President, Paul Shar- row-V.P., Janet Benoit-Sec., Susan Steinmetz-Tres., Patty Heisler— Pari. UNITED NATIONS CLUB On December 2, the United Nations Club took 35 of its members and went to the United Nations in New York. The club left early of that Wednesday morning, and took a bus to the Paramount Hotel. Some of the things that they went to were the United Nations General Assembly, the Headquarters of the United Nations Association, and the Staute of Liberty. Chaperones were from right to left: Peggy Butler, Johnny the bellhop at the hotel, Marie Klie- man, Mike LaBuhn, and Mrs. Grace Zapel, advisor. Mrs. Zapel said that the club will be going to New York for the next five years. 129 Time out for lunch. 131 MARINER STAFF Linda Lewis-Editor Janet Benoit Amy Bowden Jill Clark Wendy Finsterwald Bill Galvin Linda Hampe Lorel Hampe Judy Lewis Dave McKellar Betsy Pypa Susan Steinmetz Jerry Werner Mr. Anthony Cavis-Advisor 8-BALL CLUB L. to R.: Ken Bott, Chris Cole, Kevin Hauke, Wayne Neely, Randy Rhodes, Terry Dawe. DEBATE TEAM 134 IN MEMORIAM Many times we do not appreciate all that our teachers have done for us until something happens to make us think back and realize that they wanted to help. Mr. Walter Green, who graduated from Michigan State University with a Master of Arts degree, came to Marine City High School in the fall of 1965. He taught Agriculture and was the head of the F.F.A. He helped keep score at basketball games and also contributed his services at foot- ball games. To the wife and children who Mr. Green has left behind, we would like to show our appreciation for all he has done for us. 135 SENIOR INDEX JALEETA ALCORN Photography Club-4; Typing Club-4. It isn’t wrapped with pretty paper and ribbons, but it simply focuses on the life of each and every Mariner. To the yearbook staff, Mr. Cavis, and Mr. Archer, I would like to extend my personal thanks. The 1971 Mariner could not have been completed without their help. We hope you enjoy this book as much as we have enjoyed putting it together. Sincerely, Editor-in-Chief 155 AUTOGRAPHS 156
