Mr. Oles comes to us from Avondale High School near Detroit, where he served as Attendance Officer. For being a newcomer to modular scheduling, Mr. Oles has adapted to it very well . . . (meaning he no longer refers to class hours as being periods, and now calls them mods ) All kidding aside, we know and understand many of the problems that Mr. Oles has faced this year, and we salute him for his capable leadership and respon- siveness to our high school. This is the first year that Marine City has had a regular girls’ basketball team in many years. The girls played four games in interscholastic competition and did very well. They lost their first game in a real squeaker to Cros-Lex, by only 3 points, which Cros-Lex scored in the last 10 seconds of the game. The girls came roaring back the very next week and defeated Port Huron Catholic. A stale Wednesday led to a loss to arch-rival St. Clair High School the following week. After a two week layoff due to the Sportsday Tourna- ments that G.A. A. hostessed, the Mariner gals reached their peak of perfec- tion by ending the season with a 35 - 17 triumph over cross-town Holy Cross. What are You Looking at? Bychowg b Qtudemt Mr. Harvey, Maren Klentze, Mrs. Harris, Judy Cyrowski I am very glad to have the opportunity to tell you, how much I like to be a exchange stu- dent at M.C.H.S. I know that being an exchange student will be the greatest experience, I ' ll ever have and each of you have a part in it. I am sure it would not have turned out for me this good, if all of you would not have been so friendly to me. I am very happy to be able to make so many friends in this country, because I believe that the relationship be- tween the U.S. and Germany will be a lot better, if the kids know each other. I will never forget all the fun I had together with all my friends at our games, dances, at homecoming, in band, in the ski-club, or even up town. Thanks a lot for this good year, 109 Maren sings Christmas Carols with the Spanish class. Other members who are with Maren are; Connie Biskner, Maren, Lorel Hauke, Chris Carrier, and Betty Duchane. Modular scheduling means finding a quiet place to study. This is sometimes hard to do, but Maren seems to know where to find one. Maren is discussing the band concert with some friends . . . but then it may be something entirely different . . . ??? In the picture to the immediate left it appears that Maren might be doing a little cramming for a test . . . ! 110 Here are some pictures of Maren with family and friends . . . Student Council sent Terry Minor, Kay Trudell, Bob Curtis, and Tom Simons to Greece, New York to observe the Greece High School. While they were there, they visited with Mr. Trudell, former principal of Marine City High, and brought back some ideas for better student government. Other projects that the student council undertook this year were the modification of the dress code, and a taste of real adult government such as working with the commu- nity on the all important millage issue. Every year the National Honor Society introduces the new members by holding a tea in their honor. In addition to the tea, new members are installed dur- ing a special all-school assembly held each Spring. The National Honor Society is one of the oldest high school clubs nationally, and is well known for its purpose in recognizing the outstanding scholastic accomplishments of our Country ' s young men and women. 113 PtarfoopiapJuj Class This years photography class was taught by Mr. Wayne Ferriby. Some of the projects that the students completed were note books with se- quence pictures depicting a central theme . As an example, one student covered the marketing process of meat processing, from slaughtering to retail sales. Other projects included photograph- ing stills to action pictures. The yearbook staff is indebted to Mr. Ferriby and his class for the many fine pictures that were used throughout the book. The Marine City High Eight- Ball Club members were the johnny- on-the-spot, boys again this year, with their numerous contributions of time and effort to the smooth running operations of our school. Setting up the stage for the bas- ketball games, setting up chairs for assemblies, and Dee Jaying for the record dances were among the many things performed by Mrs. Young ' s boys. 120 CLUB OFFICERS Vice-Commodore: Dan Liebaert, Commodore: Duane Jones, Rear-Commodore: Debbie DeCou. The Trampoline Club was formed this year for boys and girls who like learning and performing more advanced stunts on the trampoline. Because of the wide interest of students and the enjoyment of nearly everyone for it, some restric- tions as to membership would have to be made to keep the club from becom- ing too large. It was decided that in order for girls to qualify for membership, a candidate would have to be able to perform a knee-flip, swivel-hips, turn- table, and a back pull-over. For boys, a front flip, back flip, baroni, 1 1 4 front flip, and a cradle twist was the requirement. Besides meeting every Thursday during a special open lab, several members gave a performance at a basketball halftime. AA. This year has been a very busy one for G.A. A. members. In October three teams traveled to Algonac for the annual soccer tournament. After a hard played and much spirited game, the girls squared danced in the gym and then had dinner. In February, Marine City hostessed a basketball tournament with seven schools represented. Various recreational games were provided for the teams who lost out in the early rounds, and Mrs. Chiti and her staff served dinner to the hungry girls and their sponsors after the tournament. This Spring, G.A. A. members travel to St. Clair for a volleyball playday, and then hope to cap the year off with a track and field playday at either Cros-Lex, or Chippewa Valley, weather permitting.
