Science And Mrs. Harris M.C.H.S. offers a varied science program. In general science, taught by Mr. Teichow, the fundamentals of science are taught. This is open to all freshmen. Mr. Newcombe teaches biology, which is the science of liv- ing things. The students get their first chance to dissect things, such as starfish, frogs, etc. Chemistry and physics are taught by Mrs. Harris. Chemistry is the science of the composition of substances. The phys- ics class deals with the study of natural science. The class made a trip to Cran- brooke this year to see the physics depart- ment there. The physics class works in the different fields of natural science, such as light, energy, sound, and motion. Mr. Newcombe “Let’s see, one times two is. . . 8

ACADEMICS As the sea of knowledge drifts by the students come to realize the importance of their education. A well equipped teaching staff is needed to instruct the students in this day and age when the best minds are needed for the important jobs in the world today and the ones in the future.

Mathematics Mathematics plays an important part in our world today. The cur- riculum of our school offers many varied choices in math. Math 9, which is taught by Mrs. Gunderson and Mrs. Harris, teaches the funda- mentals of basic math. In Algebra I the students learn the basics of algebra, which uses not only num- bers but also signs and letters. In Algebra II the more advanced tech- niques of algebra are taught. This is open to juniors, and they must have had Algebra I. This is also taught by Mr. Gunderson. In geometry, which is taught by Mr. Teichow, the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry are taught. This is open to all soph- omores who had Algebra I. Ad- vanced math deals with more advanced plane and solid geometry and also trigonometry. Mr. Gunderson Mr. Teichow Algebra n in action 9
