Senior Play The Mighty Class of ' 59 chose for their class play ' Seven Mayor ' s man Friday, carrying off Sharon Fielding, who played double-crosser. Keys to Baldpate. Here we see Gordon Perrin, as the the blackmailer and who was shot by Bill Koch, the 40 J-Hop Carolina Moon was presented by the juniors on November 8, 1958. The dance was held at the Ward-Cottrell gymnasium, which was transformed into a Southern plantation. The decora- tions were a plantation house, mammoth trees trimmed with artifi- cial Spanish moss, and fleecy clouds. Music for dancing was furnished by the Three Flats. Among these are the Christmas program, given in co-operation with the Art Department; the Lenten assemblies; an area concert; and the annual spring music festival. Junior Red Cross The Junior Red Cross has nineteen members: Ann Beem, Peter Beem, Anthony Chamberlin, Karleen Emig, Ruthann Hoffman, Richard Kogel- schatz, Sandra Miller, Sharon Schroe- der, Vera Woehlert, Robert Kogel- schatz, Sally Heyser, Don Bonser, Marvin Buckingham, Donna Chamber- lin, Marie Chitti, Paul Chitti, Kay Connors, Lynn Beebe, and Andrea Sickle. Membership is open to all grades. Ann Beem is president; Anthony Chamberlin is vice president; Karleen Emig is secretary; and Vera Woehlert is treasurer. Mr. Connors is the spon- sor of the group. The Junior Red Cross carries on many activities during the year. Last fall the club entered a float in the Homecoming parade. The group distributes copies of the JUNIOR RED CROSS JOURNAL throughout the school each month. Early in the year a membership drive is held. In the spring the club undertakes its big project— a drive for funds to fill the chest which is sent to a needy area. The club also sponsors a dance during the year. 52 Audio-Visual The Audio-Visual Committee, under the spon- sorship of Mr. Shattuck, plays an important part in our school activities, as the members play the records for the noon-hour and evening dances, show films for teachers, and repair equipment. The Mariners opened their season with a 34-0 victory in an exhibition game with the cross-town rivals, the Holy Cross Crusaders Marine City dropped its first game of the year to St. Stephen with a score of 7-0. The mighty Mariners, defeating St. Clair in the last few minutes of the game, brought the Bell back to M.C.H.S. Trying for a second victory, the Mariners lost a hard fought Homecoming game to Algonac, 6-19. Marine City, with one win and two losses, lost number three to the Rich- mond Blue Devils in a rough 34-0 game. Coming from behind, the Mariners beat Marysville 13-6 on the Viking field covered with mud and rain. Once again the Mariners got stung by the hornets of St. Stephen. This close battle ended with the score 7-6. In their last game of the season, the Mariners did themselves proud by coming closer to beating Richmond than did any other team in the league. Marine City racked up 13 points against the Blue Devils ' 20.
