Algonac 13 ; M.C. 0 Marine City, giving everything it had with its new offense, fell before a huge Homecoming crowd on the strength of two last period scores by the Muskrats. Richmond 20; M.C. 7 Richmond ' s over-all power and strong defense were just too much for the Mariners. Some of you may have attended several occasions such as this, while others may have to look back to your own high school days to recall similiar memories. To some of you, this is an event that happens every year, a senior class graduating from high school, while again to others this is that one day anticipated for many years, and one day which will be remembered in the years to come. But, whatever your reason for being here tonight, whether you are teachers, parents, relatives, or friends, the class of ”55 ' ' welcomes you. Throughout our high school years our class has regarded a person ' s individuality as one of his most priceless posses- sions. We believe in scholarship, which represents open- mindedness toward knowledge and ideals; leadership, which understands the obligations of living in a democracy; service, which fosters personal responsibilities; friendliness, which rec ognizes no barriers of race, color or creed; and respect for authority, which is a necessity in an organized society. This class has passed through all the stages of school life according to tradition — honoring the seniors as fresh- men, laughing at the freshmen as sophomores, ignoring all as juniors, and letting everyone know when we were seniors, but most important of all, we have acted and worked as a class, a closely-knit group of companions, realizing this year would be our last together. Some day most of us will be sitting in your place, watch- ing a performance similar to this, and we hope that when that time comes, we will have been as helpful, encouraging, and faithful to that graduating class as you have been to us. As President of the class of ' ' 55 I am speaking for the entire class in hoping that you enjoy our commencement program. Bob Parcell GLcuU Poem As we entered into high school. This class of fifty-five, We each set up a certain goal, Toward which we planned to strive. Our first year was the hardest. As Freshmen, we were new. But with the aid of teachers. We managed to struggle through. We then returned, as Sophomores, To begin our second year. The road ahead seemed difficult. And our plan3 were not too clear. But as a mighty Junior class, With two years left to go. We accomplished much and learned a lot, As our records plainly show. We now have reached our Senior year. And high school is almost done. But our final year won’t be complete. Till our diplomas have been won. Our high school days, we ' ll never forget. Nor the friends which we made there. Though our ways may part when we graduate. We ' ll all meet again somewhere. Dennis Thompson and Terry Washburn Class Motto Be the best of whatever you are. Class Colors Class Flower Green and Silver White Rose GIqAA, Jkd uj, THE DIARY OF THE CLASS OF ' 55 September Seventy-one of us brand new recruits en- listed at the Marine City Naval Station. We Joined the good fleet of M.C.H.S., which consisted of four ships. We were assigned to the vessel of the lowest rank nicknamed ' Freshmen. Our officers were Bob Farcell, Captain; Nancy Baker, 1st Mate; Margaret Achatz, Recorder; and Mary Phillips, Purser. Our Commanding Officers were Mr. Borr and Miss Bolton. After nine and one-half month ' s boot training, we were allowed a two and one-hal f month ' s furlough. September 1952 Seventy-six of us were promoted to our second ship Sophomore. Our officers aboard this trip were Don Wissman, Captain; Beverly Rossow, 1st Mate; Lorraine Erdman, Recorder; and «nn Recor as Purser. This year our Commanding Officers were Mr. Borr ana Mrs. Burghaorf. Having again passed nine and one-half month ' s of train- ing we were given time off --two and one-half months. September 1953 Sixty-eight of us reported to our third ship Junior. Cur crew, under the leadership of Captain Bob Parcell, 1st Mate Tom Chris tensen. Recorder Beverly Rossow, and Purser Carol Baker, were now going full speed ahead. As we were now becoming expert seamen, we decided to break a few records and enjoy ourselves. Nov- ember 5 — We gave a beautiful J-Hop, Autumn Nocturne, under the co-chairmanship of Tom Christensen and Bob Far- cell, which was very successful. 7-ebruary 195 -- w ' e set a new record of $2500 selling magazines. March 1954--Marine City Mariners fought their way to State Class C runner-up title in basketball. They won five titles that year. June 1954-- We celebrated the Junior-Senior Banquet on our ship with Terry Washburn doing a marvelous job as toastmaster. September 1954 Sixty-two of us proudly walked up the gangplank to our fourth and final ship Senior. Leading the march was our experienced Captain Bob Parcell with Mary Belle Drinkard as 1st Mate, Ami Smith as Recorder, and Carol Baker as Purser. This, being our last year on these four ships of training, had been the happiest of them all, but it seemed to us to be of the shortest duration. November l8--We pre- sented our Senior play, The Brain Storm, under the wonder- ful direction of Mrs. Fullwood. On May 7 We gave a wonder- ful Senior Prom. By this time we were all looking forward to May 30, when we left to go to Niagara Palls and New York on our Senior trip. We spent a glorious three days sightseeing and having a lot of fun. June 4--The Junior-Senior Banquet was given in our honor. June 5 0ur Baccalaureate services were held, and on June 9, we received our honorable discharges from the fleet of M.C.H.S. There is a true feeling of sadness as we think of leav- ing this fleet which we have grown to love so well. Some of us will take up training on a larger fleet called College, while others will start out upon the great highway of life. Each one of us is determined to make a great success of life. We feel sure that we, as graduates, shall advise all who have not experienced the wonderful four years of life on the sea of knowledge to enlist as a Mariner at the grand old recruiting station at Marine City High School. Alyce Dennis ' 55 ' Beverly Rossow ' 55 ' HAIL, CLASS OF ' 55 Hail class of ' 55, Noble and strong. To thee with loyal hearts We raise our song. Ne ' re shall our spirit die; Others shall praise. Hail, Class of 55 Through endless days. Green and silver Our colors are. And thee white rose we chose As our class flower. Our high school days are done. But we ' ll remember always.
