Viking Enthusiasm Viking enthusiasm was shown by a lot of different things this year. Football games, rallies, dances, and club partici- pation were all very well supported by Marina students throughout the year. Enthusiasm however was not just re- lated to extra-curricular activities. En- thusiasm also spread to such things as homework, and class studies as well. Everyone prospers from such partici- pation that was shown this year. The students got to meet lots of new people, and learn more as well. Teachers had a lot more fun teaching with appreciative classes. The community benefitted be- cause more students were kept off the streets, and less problems developed. Enthusiasm makes the whole year run better, and everyone seemed to dis- cover that this year, lf a person can keep up their enthusi- asm, nothing in the world can stop them from reaching their goals. This is a very important lesson, and it was taught excellently this year to all the students and staff at Marina. Enthusiasm was demonstrated by both, the Pepsters and the Pepster Alumni at Marinas Homecoming. At dances, the enthusiasm seemed to run wild in the air, leaving everybody with a good time. Kathy Winter and lier friend show off their enthusiasm and participation in school activities. l2 Opening

Q The Summer- cial?-GS exciting as the 1984 Summer Olympic - Games. Not since the year 1932 has Los An- geles been honored as the host of such a magnificent event and the final result was a complete success. All the years of planning and organizing seem to have paid off. From the moment the Olympic Torch began its long journey across America and arrived at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on July Q 28, 1984 to the grand finale on August 12, 1984, never have the games been better pre- sented. The excitement of the many competi- tions and the anticipation and enthusiasm of the huge crowds provided the necessary ele- ments to make the games an event long to be remembered. Among the thousands of people contribut- ing to the success of the games, Marina's flag and drill team deserve special recognition. Performing at the opening and closing cere- monies is an honor the entire school can be proud of. Hundreds of American athletes also deserve great recognition. ln the many differ- ent events they showed the strength and de- termination which make our country the great nation that it is, winning literally hun- dreds of Olympic medals. Although the games are now over, they proved to be of great historical significance. Watching the many nations unite in peace and friendship is something not to be forgotten for years to come. i The Coliseum and the fans prepare for the XXlllrd Olympiad. , ' -:i:2:,5'15--- fm: fr'-S I -Ui. -Q ' J-9, ' , ' L' , l qs ' 4'?'i 9'7 . --.n -if t f' 'n.:441.' 3 -tin we WFT! .- if -xv-iii x ..
