I think we need another streamer over there. Senior Student Council has had an active year with many projects and new activities. Along with the annual Christmas decorating of the office and counting votes in Youth-in-Gov- ernment, the group carried out a club co-ordi- nating program, played host to Blennerhasset Area Council and sold Spiriteer tickets. The Council paid the tuition of several delegates to the summer workshops, sent delegates to the state convention, and sponsored a King of Hearts dance to raise money for continuation of the American Field Service exchange student program. The Student Council has re-organized this year making the group much smaller and enabling it to function more smoothly. The football season of 1959 will be remembered as long as football is a part of this great school. It was a fabulous season because of the tremendous desire and confidence displayed by our fine coaches and players. In simplest terms, the team ON YOUR RIGHT was probably the best one ever to represent this school. It was the first undefeated squad in school history, captured the Central Ohio League title, and finished sixth in the state in both the A. P. and U. P. I. polls. Many Tigers were honored for their achievements: Frank Christie, quarterback, All C. O. L., J. C. All Ohio, H. M. All American. Phil Offenberger, linebacker, All C. O. L., A. P. first team, All Ohio. Bob Warden, guard, All C. O. L., third team All Ohio. Dick Wendelken, halfback, All C. O. L., H. M. All Ohio. Jim Farley, tackle, All C. O. L., H. M. All Ohio. Frank Spriggs, defensive half, All C. Our team, displaying a great of- fense, rolled over eighteen opponents to capture the C. O. L. crown and the sectional tournament championship. A heartbreaking loss in the district tour- nament to Portsmouth, 76-75, ended the outstanding season, one in which many observers classed the Tigers as one of the best teams in the state. The Bengals were led by Big Tom Baker, 6' 4 pivotman, who was deadly with his whirling, twisting drives, short jump shots, and fabulous hooks. Frank and Junior whiz, John Wilburn, 6'0', guard, vvho averaged about 8 points a game Were given H. M. on the C. O, L. team. Jim Farley, the other Tiger starter, although not scoring much, gave the Orangemen great board strength and spirit Also aiding the Tiger juggernaut were Bob Warden, Jerry Curtis, Bob Fogle, Bob Wark, and Dick McKenna. Reserve BaskefbaH Although Winning only six games, the Tigercubs played exciting basketball. They dropped four of their eight losses by a total of nine points, so one can see the Cubs were better than the record indicates. The team was very young as there were three freshmen on the starting five, but although they lacked experience, they made up for it in desire. The little Tigers vvere led by Bill Warden, a prom- ising freshman, who scored 202 points for a fine 14-.4 average. He was helped considerably by Bon Sprague, a hustling aggressive guard, and Bill Whetsell, a rugged rebounder and fine shot. The Bengals' fine 14--4 record was remarkable since the Tigers made it without the services of the fastballing, hardhitting Frank Christie, who was injured early in the season. In the pitching department the orange and black was led by Dick Spindler, who had a fine 5-2 record, and Jim Farley, who post- ed a 4'-0 slate. Jim's big bat also won many games for the Tigers. Slick-fielding Phil Parsons led the team with a lofty .340 average. He will return along with thirteen other lettermen. Thus, with such a fine group returning, let 'iopponents beware! HY .59- A From the moment we entered the Marietta High School hallways as humble seventh graders, we felt a part of the Q, I school. How proud we were when our eighth grade float won third prize with our dial telephone- and the title Call to Vic- tor l yVVe began to discover all that high school life had to offer. In our junior year we realized the value and rewards of teamwork. Our main project for that year was the Junior Prom. Who will ever forget K'Apple Blossom Time of the Junior Class Picnic at Masonic Park and how it began to rain as we were leaving? But our senior year is the one we shall always remember. Through work and determination the Marietta Tigers won every football game and captured the C.O.L. crown. How beautiful the C.O.L. float was as it entered the stadium dur- fatjwggf ing the last few seconds of our last football game. And with 7. SEZ t T' s tv, .V .M New 2 5 ,Q ,,,L,,K,, gg., 'Q .i ' ' fwfffbe 'S sr, -W--3 just as much skill and effort, the Tigers won the C.O.L. crown in basketball, too. f As the graduating class of 1960, we have won much glory, 'I' but that glory is now a part of our past. In years to come we shall remember the joys and tears and'work we've known at ' M.H.S. And though we may never all be together again, our fondest memories will be of the years we spent together as a class. As the last two lines of our Senior Class Song state so perfectly: Our thoughts will never die of our beloved class of '60 Marietta High. Q'lvwLaQ Adams, Paul Roger .... . . 104 Fudge - General.
