ln the spring of l974, a swindling trav- eling salesman by the name of Professor Harold Hill, alias Bryan Par- ker, brought Seventy-Six Trombones into the lives of the Iowa Stubborn peo- ple of River City. Trouble had invaded River City, and Hill, along with his side-kick Marcellus lDan McCalll tried to start a boy's band. The self-educated librarian- piano teacher, played by Gayle Baily, along with Mayor Shinn lWilliam Penderl, are not so easily swayed by the Profes- sor. Hill tries to win the love of Marian, but she will have nothing to do with him. If You Don't Mind My Saying So, Mrs. Paroo, Marian's Irish mother played by Valerie McCormick, wants Marian to marry him. Yet Marian has her own idea of My White Knight. Hill has problems convincing the towns- people, especially the school board - and as he almost has the people con- vinced another traveling salesman, Charlie Cowell lBruce Pilgriml has papers to prove Hill is a phony. Marian tries to stall Charlie and keep him from revealing Hill. In the meantime, the entire town is after the Professor, and he is eventually caught. Marian stands up for Hill, and finally she introduces the boys' band. The people are appalled at the boy's ability to play. The choral department expresses many thanks to Mrs. Beverly Henrich, director, Mr. Bill Robb, art, and Ms. Gina Davis, drama advisor. -if -I' Il. ' A In lf No hazing on school property!
