Foreword Because the story in picture and fact of this war- year of 194;i- ' 44 at Marietta High School is epic in its significance to those who have been a part of it ; and, Because high scliool days may be thought of in terms of fact and fancy, and of realities and ideals, even as could be life from whence sprang the myths of the Golden Age ; and. Because Marietta High School stands for culture, for strength, for learning, for qualities of body, heart and mind which have endured since the days when early man sought to endow gods and goddesses with these powers and qualities; and. Because we believe that, although our world is rocking with tempestuous war activ- ities, we, as American youth, may be permitted brief respite in this volume depicting the glamorous and arduous events of the past school year before we turn from its pages into another era of activity . . .
