DEAN UF THE CULIIGE MERRILL R. PATTERSON Dr. Patterson is serving a threefold func- tion at Marietta, really fourfold, and doing a mighty line job of it too. As the Dean of the College there passes over his desk every- thing from the hiring of faculty members to the approving of the college calendar. He also serves partly in the capacity of Dean of Men and has, at one time or another, dealt with just about every problem a young stu- dent nlale has had to face in college. He was appointed to the Administrative Com- mittee in 1947 and since then. has served ably and well. Best of all, though, is his Shakespeare course. Dr. Patterson and old Will are old friends, and the course has probably made English majors out of more students than any other on campus. DEAN 0F WUMEN RUTH A. WILCOX Dean Wilcox was appointed Dean of Wfomen in 1947 and since that time has kept a careful eye on several hundred healthy, American coeds. lt would take a mother of twelve to even begin to appre- ciate the Dean's task. It is a tribute to her clear mind and understanding that she has yet to show an ill effect from such a vigil. She has had to be a comforter of the sick, a repairer of hearts, and a shopping guide. STUDENT SENA TE' The Student Senate ol' Marietta College is composed ol' probably the sharpest minds and lceenest. eyes ol' any group ol' campus watch-dogs in existence on the present.-day college scene. As the student. voice militant the Student Senate uses its liberal powers well and wisely in the daily decisions on matters allecting the student and the Col- lege. Composed ol' representatives olf the sororities, l'raternities and independents, the Senate controls the distribution ol' financial aid to the majority ol' student activities. During the past. year it has prepared and approved budgets lor the lXflarcolian, the lvlariettana, and other campus publications, acted upon various student and laculty re- quests, produced the New Book Ball and the Commencement, Hall, and, above all, man- aged to keep everyone happy and conlident in the ability ol' the Senate to continue to keep the existing good-will between the adtninistration and the students. Under the more than able leadership ol' Chuck Schmidt, these hard-working students ol' the Senate more than deserve any praise that we can give them, but give them praise we will. Third Row: -I.
