W. BAY IRVINE, PRESIDENT Witli things as they are today in the academic world, a college president is a very busy man indeed. Dr. W. Bay Irvine, our President, is an excellent example ol' such a man. Heading the fund-raising drive for the College, directing the Iar reaching plans for increasing the enrollment of the College, presiding over the administrative branches of the school, these things and many more are what make up the day of Dr. Irvine. Yet even with all these things, our President still manages to take his daily tour of the campus, stopping to chat with students and faculty, and generally making himself Ielt in our daily lives at Marietta. It is a truly wonderful thing to have a good and able President, but it is a much hner thing to have a good and honest friend, and Dr. Irvine is all these things to us. 4?Sx D1 and M15 Irvme lakf ilu azr, and thc Doctor gels It 7I'l,i7l07'!ldj'U.S'l7I1611l. . .

DEAN UF THE CULIIGE MERRILL R. PATTERSON Dr. Patterson is serving a threefold func- tion at Marietta, really fourfold, and doing a mighty line job of it too. As the Dean of the College there passes over his desk every- thing from the hiring of faculty members to the approving of the college calendar. He also serves partly in the capacity of Dean of Men and has, at one time or another, dealt with just about every problem a young stu- dent nlale has had to face in college. He was appointed to the Administrative Com- mittee in 1947 and since then. has served ably and well. Best of all, though, is his Shakespeare course. Dr. Patterson and old Will are old friends, and the course has probably made English majors out of more students than any other on campus. DEAN 0F WUMEN RUTH A. WILCOX Dean Wilcox was appointed Dean of Wfomen in 1947 and since that time has kept a careful eye on several hundred healthy, American coeds. lt would take a mother of twelve to even begin to appre- ciate the Dean's task. It is a tribute to her clear mind and understanding that she has yet to show an ill effect from such a vigil. She has had to be a comforter of the sick, a repairer of hearts, and a shopping guide. Dean Wilcox also Ends time to teach a speech course or two, and to guide a no- tably and constantly successful debate team through its paces. WI
