Despite a few mimnderstondings, Pep Club managed to raise spirit in the student body and the othletes, if not in its own members. Although two broken thumbs emphasized the Warriors' lock of depth and three mideseoson losses wiped out their hopes for the EHL Championship, they finished with a strong 5-3-1 record, A preseason thumb injury to senior quarterback John Konold prevented the offense from gelling until mid-seoson. A stmiior injury to senior end Brod Blum weakened the Warriors? passing game Two of Mariemont's losses were to Sycamore and Madeira, the eventual first and second place finlshers in the EHL. The third loss, to Milford, has been termed, HThe Great Game Robbery. When the time clock registered 0:00, the Warriors had apparently won with the score 20-?6. The team went wild and tons poured onto the field, but the officials found 7 more seconds and 0 Milford time out which the Eagles converted into 6 points to win 22-20. The fourth quarter is ours? FIRST ROW: Guy DeDiemor, Pot Secaur, Dove Paris, Joe! Corvujol, Jeff Foley, SECOND ROW: Lou Hendricks, Taylor Rosenfeld, Jeff Woods, John Richardson Guy Hicklin, Scott Williams. THIRD ROW: Coach Duane Correll, Jim Masters, Roy House, Andy Augspurger, Dove Bartlett, Mike Curry, Cooch Dick Sregmaier. For the second year in a row, the EHL championship barely escaped the Reserve football team. They finished with losses to In dion Hill 7-6 and eventual League Champion Loveland 12-8. The high point of the season was CI 14-6 win over Madeira, the winning touchdown coming in the lost 40 sec- onds. With only 16 boys out for the team, the Warriors' biggest problem was lock of depth. The team finished third in the Moriemont Invitational, lost by V2 point to the powerful Anderson Redskins in the Cincinnati East Sectional, pieced third in the Southwestern Ohio district, and seventeenth in the State contest. At State sophomore Roy House finished eleventh in backstroke, and the medley reioy team of Roy House, John Konold, Dove Paris, and Scott Mogee took eighth. This retoy was later named to the Cincinnati Post and Times-Stor Alerity Swim Team. This work conceptoins were John Konold, Fred Lou, and Scott Mogee 7 the team's only seniors. Mogee earned the team trophy for Most Points with Jim Drisler wirmihg Most Improved and Jim Stites taking the Warrior Award. H9 VARSITY BASKETBALL The Varsity Bosketbclt teem completed a surprisingly good season on 0 strong note finishing second in the Sectional tournament to Amelia. The Warriors finished with 0 winning 10-9 record despite having to absorb 0 different system under new head coach Jerry Wocd. Mr. Wood, recently coaxed out of retirement by the allure of coaching, attributed his team's success to hard work, good teamwork, and streng performances from all the players. All of the starters led the team in scoring at least one game. Brian Critchelt walked off with most of the post- season honors. He was named to the First Team All- EHL, Special Mention All-City Team, and Honorable Mention All-Stote. Brian was chosen to play for the East in the annual Eost-West All-Stor Game, He also received the award for the Best Defensive Player. Gordy Hommersmith was awarded the trophy for the Best Foul Shooter and was named Honorable Mention AII-EHL Team along with Brad Blum and Rick Bomhort, Pete Woodward copped the Warrior Award. They finished 7-7 in the league and 117 for the season. This marked a definite improvement over last years 25 league and 6-8 over-oll record. The highlights of the season were the Warrior wins over Anderson and Sycamore. The Warriors were forced into overtime with Anderson otter a 47-47 deadlock at the end of four quarters, but come through with 2 points in the 2 minute overtime to win 4947. In the Sycamore game, the Reserves come from behind 277 to pull out o 5867 win. Dove Flores took honors as the Best Defensive Player and the Free Throw Percentage Leader. Jeff Foley led in scoring, rebounds, and field goal percentages. 123 FRESHMAN BASKETBALL The Freshman Basketball team finished strong with 15 consecutive wins after 2 initial losses to win the Eastern Hills League Championship. The Warriors averaged 44 points 0 game versus Cl meager 31 given up. The season climaxed in o 39- 37 win over Lovelond in the EHL tournament. With only Henderson and Pete Woodward graduating, the Warriors look forward to another fine season next year. Steve Lovins won the Warrior Award, leading the team with an ERA of 1.24.
