The team members spent hours organizing their evidence on federal aid to education, the year's topic. This work paid off when the varsity team of Doug Kleine, Bob Walton, Hurry Matthews, and Dave Thompson placed second in two tournaments, one held at Princeton, the other in Louisvilie. In the tour. state tournament, Moriemont's varsity debaters finished nine rounds of the difficult rotory-style debate with an unmatched 8-1 record. However, a clerical error kept them out of the championship round. At the last debate of the season, the NFL district meet in Columbus, the team, pitted against some of the strongest teams in the state, advanced as for as the fourth round. CROSS COUNTRY The Cross Country Team consists of a reserve and a varsity team. Each par- ticipant must run a distance of approxi- mately two miles, usually a little more. In order to prepare for this course, there is a great deal of training which begins in the fall of the year.
