BUYS' STATE Mark Snow In attending Boy's State I learned a few very important things. First of all, if you ever get an opportunity to better yourself, take full advantage of that opportunity. You learn much more by doing something rather than just reading about it or watching others do it. Second, the best thing I can do for the government is to vote for the people I feel would do the best job. And last, I realized that there will be clowns in politics and governments just like there were at Boys' State unless we weed them out in each election by choosing only those we have studied and found to be honestly working to better represent and serve the people. I thank all these who were responsible for me receiving this experience. GIRLS' STATE Tracy Nowak Girls State 1979 was held from july 11 - july 17 on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson. We stayed in the Arizona - Sonora dorms with 4 girls to each room. Each floor in the dorm was a city. There were 16 cities in our state. Every city was in one of two counties, and when we arrived, we were all assigned a party which we supported. We carried on business as if we were the real politicians. We learned all about government and had a lot of fun at it. We enjoyed everything from elections and county caucus to party rallies and midnight raids. The Girls State experience has taught me very much about government and how it is run and why it is an experience I won't forget and am glad I had the chance to be a part of it. l 76
