That's what our Student Council did at the beginning of the year and We kept on rolling all year long. This summer on June 22, our President Suzie Myers went to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the Conference of The, National Association of Student Councils at Towers High School in Decatur, Georgia. She had a blast as she learned how other schools Keep on Trucking with school enthusiasm and leadership. She lived in a home with the Elder's, a family in Decatur, who treated her like their daughter. All her fun in Atlanta ended on June 26. Next on the yearly agenda was a trip to Tucson on October 2 - 4 with our new sponsor, Mr. Cobb, for the annual TRAGYC Convention where Debbie Pratt, Suzie Myers and Steve Franklin learned of ways to keep those-wheels rolling without rolling over you! We attended the Conference of the Association of Student Councils at Thunderbird High School in Phoenix. Bicentennial was the theme as Computer Genesis made us brainstorm for ideas to share with our newly made friends. The executive officers really got rolling on this one on November 20 and 21, with the help of Mrs. McGinley. We didn't stop there! It was onward, to change the constitution and make it more detailed and less general in order to cover more areas that were previously very vague. We tried to eliminate class and club hassles this way. We slid out of the picture with our yearly Spring Party at South Mountain Park. We had plenty of chicken, potato chips, cokes, and hamburgers! With all the volleyball we played, we will really put up a fight next year if some team tries to rip off our title of South Mountain Volleyball Champs! Members must be well dressed when attending the initiation. Each student receives a membership card and certificate at the ceremonies. Each member should consider it an honor to be in this club. The club consists of 7 officers, 9 members, a sponsor who knows what is best, and the will to work together to make something for ourselves. We are now registered in the State and National Chapters. Whatever we put into the club we get out double by the satisfaction we get. Qualifications to be in our chapter of FBLA are that you have to be enrolled' in a business class. To the new members of the Lettermen's Club it means an hour and a half of some of the most gruesome, and painful torture anyone could imagine. To the present members of the club it represents a night of getting revenge and taking out frustration. Eventually it all ends well. You can expect the initiated members back in the swing of things, after a week or so of getting over the blood blisters and bruises which are a consequence of the event. Also, you can expect the new members to be ready to take part in the next year's initiation. The Lettermen's Club does more than bring in new members. For instance, the group takes part in many money raising activities such as the Christmas Tournament which almost left the club penniless. Under the advisory of Mrs. McGinley, who two years ago took on the complicated task of heading the group of responsible and courageous students in the dedicated process of putting this book together, we prospered. On the first Friday of the school year the Yearbook staff was visited by Mrs. Miller. She came to our school to conduct a workshop in order to get associated again with putting a Yearbook together. Mrs. Miller has been very kind and helpful to us in the past years by devoting some of her time, between writing a book of her own, and other responsibilities to other schools in helping us with taking pictures and other such efforts. e The world's greatest Bubble Gum Blower . . . PRESENTS OFFTIHE TRACK A group of students from the Maricopa High School presented the play, OFF THE TRACK by Felicia Metcalfe, February 11, 1976. The play was about a lonely little train station at which no one had stopped in forty years. One particular night there was-a train Wreck, and many passen- gers stayed at the station. The characters were subjected to bornbs, robberies, marriages, etc. Many friends were made. When a relief train shows up, all are saved. The play was a big success thanks to those who worked so hard and Mr. Upton, the director. ' I can't stay with these people ls that all there is to life? l've never heard of such a thing. The varsity football team at Maricopa High figured to be a power in the Class C ranks this season, so stated the Casa Grande Dispatch before our opening game against Seligman-. Marks of 4-0 conference and 6-2 regular closed the season for the Rams and took us to the playoffs against Valley Union. We kept our heads up and always strove for victory. Effort and determination were demanding on everyone's part and ALL the Rams met the requirements. Team captains were Bobby Templeton, Norbert Peters, and Troy Anderson. Billy Tow and Troy Anderson, two star players, were hurt and unable to play for the last four games. Struggle as the team did without them, Billy and Troy cheered them on. Bobby Templeton was named All-Conference Class C South Division Squad Defensive Captain. He made the team's first unit on offense and defense. Norbert Peters was named for the first unit as Defensive Safety. Tom Donithan was named on the second team for offense and defense as Center and End. And the Rams put one more through the hoop. The team has done well thanks to the great coaching of David Thompson and Don Reese. The Rams worked hard to have a great season and they achieved this goal with no trouble. It is impossible to have a winning season if you don't set certain goals for the team. The main goal the Rams set for themselves was to prepare themselves physically and mentally for the C-South Tournament at the end of the regular season. Maricopa may have been small in number with ten members on the team but big in size. All of the starting five on the squad Were taller than 5'10 . Size is what you need in Basketball and Maricopa had plenty of it. Rich Chance led in tallness with a heighth of 6'3 . So as you see Maricopa was no team to push around. f Curse you Red Baron. . . ROW 2: Cindy Colvin, Gina Hamilton, Lolitha Reed, Teresa Rodriguez, Nancy Bracamonte. ff , TO CTIO Sports are for all types of individuals with the diversity of events. This is the first year for girls track. Anyone can find an event they can do in track. Even though track is a team scoring effort it is really an individual sport with the competitor competing against everyone else. We compete in meets for ribbons, trophies, and for the sport itself. Some of the events we participate in are Dashes C100, 220, 4405, Runs 1880, Mile, 2 Milej, Hurdles 1180, Low, 120 Highj, Relays 1440, Mileb, Jumping CHigh, Long, Pole Vaultb, Throwing fShot, Discusb. The Trackettes are really a big help at the track meets. They write down scores, run the stop Watchs and set up hurdles. They also do the laundry. After taking lst place in ASDB Relays, lst place in the Conference Meet, lst place in the State Meet, 2nd place in the Superior Invitational last year, we sure didn't slow down any this year. GET ON THE GOOD FOOT! That is what the cheer- leaders have done this year. Building spirit, and doing skits have been some of the high- lights of the year. During the summer, the girls attended the Camp of Champs sponsored by the National Cheerleading Associ- ation at the Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ari- zona. The girls- received a spirit stick for having spirit, and good sportsmanship throughout the camp. Each team was judged every day for the new cheers that they had learned that day. The teams were judged on technique, appearance, and enthusiasm. While fulfilling these require- ments, the girls won one outstanding and three ex- cellent ribbons. Soon then, they found them- selves, meeting a new, young and active sponsor, Ms. Sonja Campbell. She taught the girls some new cheers and chants, and gave some good spirit raising ideas. The year began with a whistle and a BOOM!! Cheerleader camp couldn't improve on everything!!! Cheerleaders wait patiently for the end of the game to ring the Victory Bell. J .V. cheerleaders spirit was Sky High. They worked hard at the games and pep assemblies in keeping the school spirit up. There was an added event in choosing the J .V. cheerleaders. The varsity cheerleaders kidnapped the four girls who made the J .V. squad. The girls were scared when they were being kidnapped but afterwards it turned out to be a great slumber party at Suzie and Berta Myers house. Keep up the good work girls, we'll take all the spirit we can get! The spirit boosters of Maricopa! Sponsored by Mr. Sz Mrs. Gary Ralston.
